Bobbie Reid Recap for SMS 04/09/11
Today was great! My thanks and
congratulations go out to all the
crew of volunteers and other hard
workers at Sandia (dirt track)
today! Despite the wind and sand
that came with, there was a practice
session today. Mike Bertetto made
endless efforts in the water truck,
trying to get water on the track.
Robert Shay was extremely patient
with the weather and the anxious
drivers today. I would also like to
thank all of the fans who showed up
today! This was a wonderful start to
the season!
The Reid Racing crew put in multiple
hours this weekend to get the #15bj
dirt modified out for the opening
day.
Thank you to my crew chief(Daddy)
for coaching me as well as the car
with this new surface. I did alot of
learning, as the wind forced the
track to repeatedly dry out.
Unfortunately, the wind didn't allow
as much practice as we'd have liked.
The plan is to return in two weeks
(April
23rd) for the next practice session.
The ReidRacing team would love to
see everyone out there! Contact us
with any questions!
Race Recap for Show Low Arizona July
4th Weekend -- by Butch Reid (see
pics
Show Low Arizona)
The Coach's racing crew of Tom &
Ruth Brooks, Bad Brad Winters,
Bobbie Jean Reid, and myself headed
out on Friday to try and get in some
much needed practice at the track
that nite. We unloaded and got right
after it, making several trips out
to try different setups, we were
happy with what we learned.
Saturday in the tall cool pines, we
had clouds and a slight breeze,
wonderful day about 80 deg., Bobbie
jean's pill drawing would not be as
awesome as last time, starting 6th
in the first heat we finished where
we started thinking the track had
moisture, we were wrong. Missing the
top 8 for the main event pill draw,
we lined up 11th for the feature,
being on the inside for the start
was not good, i slid back towards
the back of the pack till i slid to
the top side, finding the groove i
liked i proceeded to pass at will
with a good hotrod, passing the #8
of Parker was certainly a highlight,
about lap 12-15 i was in 7th-8th
when the track locked down to
rubbered up, as hard as i tried to
pass the F5[thought i had him a
couple times] i finished behind the
F5 at the checkered in 6th.My goals
were to first finish, then a top
5,well almost, only damage was some
1/4 panel from the outside wall, you
can't race here without meeting the
wall!
On to Sunday, we woke up to
generator problems, leaking radiator
and no fan belt, so all Ruth's food
in the fridge had to be thrown out!
Darn it! This is a hungry crew?
After spending much of the morning
dealing with those problems we
[crew] got after prepping the car
for some more racing.
Next pill draw was a little better,
starting 4th in the 2nd heat, i was
too slow getting to the bottom where
the mud was, so i finished 5th out
of the pill draw for the main again,
shucks.
Now we were 10th in the starting
lineup, as soon as the green dropped
we all new the track was locked down
one lane rubbered up, the outside
all gained one spot so i finished
9th,NO passing for 30 laps,
boring!!!!!
Anyway we had some good racing with
some old and new friends and look
forward to next time.
See ya at the track...........
Race Recap at Canyon Raceway
05/29/10 and 05/30/10 -- by Butch Reid
CANYON RACEWAY IN PHOENIX,ARIZ.5/29
AND 5/30 MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND BEEN A
WHILE SINCE THE COACH'S LATE MODEL
WENT RACING, BUT ESPECIALLY ON THE
ROAD.
WITH TOM BROOKS, STEVEN FRANCIS, JR,
BOBBIE JEAN AND MYSELF WE HIT THE
ROAD ON SAT. MORNING LOOKING FORWARD
TO SOME FAST AND FURIOUS ACTION IN
SUNNY PHOENIX ARIZONA, LONG TIME
LOCAL FRIEND AND SOMETIME TRACK PREP
EXPERT EXTRAORDINAIRE ANDY CRITZER
WAS ON HAND TO HELP AS WELL.
SATURDAY WE UNLOADED TO HEAT AND A
BREEZE, PERFECT RECIPE FOR DRY SLICK
RACING, SURE ENOUGH THAT'S WHAT WE
GOT.
WITH 28 CARS ON HAND I COUNTED ON
MISS BOBBIE JEAN TO GET US A GOOD
STARTING SPOT AND SHE DID JUST FINE
AT THE PILL DRAW, FRONT ROW OUTSIDE
OF HEAT ONE, WITH A GOOD START WE
RACED IN SECOND PLACE AROUND 5-6
LAPS BEFORE THE CAR DIED IN CORNER 2
WITH NO FIRE IN THE IGNITION SYSTEM,
COASTING IN TO THE PITS WE CHANGED
IGN. MSD BOX TO NO AVAIL, SO WE PUT
A NEW COIL ON IT AND THAT GOT US
GOING, BUT THE 'B' MAIN WAS ON LAP 3
WHEN I PULLED OUT, DARNIT, WELL WE
MADE SOME LAPS TO CHECK THINGS OUT,
IF 2 MORE HAD DROPPED OUT OF THE B
WE WOULD HAVE MADE IT.
SUNDAY WE WERE VERY OPTIMISTIC ABOUT
OUR CHANCES CAUSE WE WERE RUNNING
SECOND IN THE HEAT SAT. BEHIND THE
FEATURE WINNER THAT NITE.
ANOTHER GOOD PILL PUT US SECOND HEAT
FRONT OUTSIDE ROW OF THAT RACE,
RUNNING A SOMEWHAT LOOSER SETUP THAT
SAT. I PRETTY MUCH FLAT FOOTED THE
HEAT TO RUN SECOND, TOP 3 FROM EACH
HEAT REDRAW FOR MAIN STARTING
POSITION SO OFF TO THE PILL DRAW WE
WENT.
9 SPOTS UP FRONT UP FOR GRABS, KIDS
OUT OF THE STANDS TURNED PISTONS
UPSIDE DOWN TO EXPOSE A NUMBER ON
THE DOME GIVING YOU THAT STARTING
SPOT, MY KID FROM THE STANDS WON
HIMSELF A REALLY COOL RC CAR FOR
PICKING ME THE #1, POLE BABY, FRONT
ROW JOE!
NOT SURE HOW GOOD WE WERE I HAMMERED
DOWN HARD AT THE GREEN TO STAY SIDE
BY SIDE WITH THE 48 CAR FOR MUCH OF
THE FIRST 20 LAPS RUNNING AND
PASSING HIM SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO
HAVE A CAUTION NEGATE MY ADVANCE TO
THE FRONT. ABOUT LAP 11-12 THE #8
CAR MUST HAVE BEEN FRUSTRATED WITH
MY RUNNING IN FRONT OF HIM CAUSE HE
DROVE IT IN SO HARD THE CAR PUSHED
UP AND HIT MY LEFT FRONT, PUTTING A
TON OF TOE-IN IN THE CAR, SO I GOT
LOOSER AND LOOSER, AT LAP 21 I WAS
ON THE HIGH SIDE TRYING THAT LINE
WHEN THE 50 CAR SPUN TOWARD ME
CAUSING ME TO SPIN OFF THE TRACK
TOWARD THE BACK STRAIT WALL,
STALLING THE MOTOR IT WOULDN'T
REFIRE SO AFTER BEING PUSHED IN TO
THE PITS COACH FOUND THE FUEL PUMP
BELT OFF. TOO LATE TO GET BACK OUT
WE STARTED LOADING UP FOR THE
WEEKEND, SOME REALLY GOOD RACING
WITH MOST, BUT THE MORON IN THE #8
BETTER GET A GRIP, WHAT GOES AROUND
COMES AROUND.
WHILE RUNNING UP FRONT AND LEADING
THE RACE I REALIZED HOW GOOD WE
WERE, TOO BAD ONE GUY HAS TO MESS UP
YOUR DAY BECAUSE OF HIS BAD DAY, OH
WELL, ON TO THE NEXT ONE,
SHOWLOW, ARIZ 4TH OF JULY, HOPE TO
SEE YOU THERE.
State of Affairs (updated 2/1/10) -- by Butch Reid
WELL FOLKS, IT'S BEEN A LONG WINTER,
NOT OVER YET BUT RACING BEGINS DOWN
SOUTH HERE SOONER THAN WHAT I'M USED
TO IN ALBQ., NICER WEATHER I GUESS.
ANYWAY, I'M LOOKING AT MY OPTIONS TO
POSSIBLY RACE IN EUNICE SOME AT
CARDINAL SPEEDWAY ALONG WITH BUTCH
JR AND GRANDSON ZACHARY. WITH THE
CURRENT JOB SITUATION WORKING AT
WIPP, AND TAKING CLASSES AT NMSU-CARLSBAD,
MY TIME IS SPREAD PRETTY THIN, BUT
THE FEVER IS STARTING TO SET IN (YOU
KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT), SO
WITH THAT SAID HOPEFULLY I CAN PULL
IT ALL TOGETHER AND MAKE A PLAN.
ALSO THINKING OF THE WINTER MELTDOWN
IN LAS CRUCES UPCOMING. WE'LL SEE IF
I HAVE TIME TO WORK ON THE CAR IN
THE NEXT MONTH.
BOBBIE WOULD LOVE TO DO SOME RACING
AS WELL SO HOPEFULLY WE CAN MAKE
THAT HAPPEN TOO.
THE COACH'S LATE MODEL HAS BEEN
PARKED FOR LACK OF MONEY. RUMOR HAS
IT CASA GRANDE WILL REOPEN THIS
SEASON SO WE CAN ONLY HOPE THE
ECONOMY GETS BETTER FOR RACING'S
SAKE! I DON'T KNOW IF TULAROSA WILL
RUN L.M.S OR AZTEC EITHER BUT LAS
CRUCES/EL PASO HAS THE CHIP L.M.
CLASS SCHEDULED WITH THEIR LIMITED
L.M.S.NOT SURE WHAT THAT MEANS FOR
OUR CAR.
ANYWAY STAYED TUNED, HOPEFULLY
SOMETHING GOOD WILL HAPPEN, LOCALLY
THE PLANS OF A DIRT TRACK IS IN THE
WORKS SO DOWN THE ROAD MAYBE A
SECOND GENERATION DUKE CITY RACEWAY?
SE YA AT THE TRACK
SOMEWHERE.........
Tuscon, Arizona 10/05/09
Recap -- by Butch Reid
The Coach's racing crew has hit the
road again!
Making our way to Tucson, Ariz. by
way of 1-25 & 1-10 we unloaded to
some great weather to start wheel
packing under.
Track was wet since they've had lots
of rain there as of late, so we
packed, and the mods packed, and we
hot lapped in the wet, FAST track,
certainly nothing like what we see
here in N.M. anywhere!
So the crew, Tom & Ruth Brooks,
Bobbie jean, Steven and myself
readied the hot rod for some hammer
down racing. Coach and Steven have
been working on the car at the shop
as well and the car was definitely
ready for the action.
I won a prize at the drivers meeting
which was a $100.fuel card from
pilot, problem is it was for the
worst pill draw! Shucks. For the
heat with 20 cars and 3 heats I was
7th in heat two, on the wood not
lifting on this fast track I worked
by a couple cars to begin working on
the 11 car. I went low while he was
high, he came down causing me to
lift, he went low, I went high.
Again he would change his line,
darnit. Finally I tried to shove it
in there and got myself out of shape
and had to lift finishing 6th, boy
this place has showed me how out of
shape I am, no time to rest at this
joint!
With a few adjustments for the
drying slowly race track we would
line up 16th in the feature. At the
green I worked the high side passing
quite a few cars. The track was
drying/slicking off on entry so I
moved up against the wall running
the very high line, not good since I
clipped the front strait wall about
lap 10-12. Pulling into the pits to
look at the damage I went down some
laps. Re-entering the track I
finished the race about where I
started since others pulled in
early, 15-16th I think. Well we have
a taste of this place now, lots of
things for me as a driver to work on
for next time!
Plans do change, but Tucson is it
for the winter, a two day show in
Nov., 7th-8th I think, and the week
long event in Jan. starting the 8th.
New job at W.I.P.P. well under way
and looking good long term so wish
me well in the career dept., next
year? We'll see, Bobbie will
probably get more racing in
somewhere.
See ya at the track.......

Recap -- by Butch Reid
Boy folks if you missed last nite at
Tulie you missed some some good ol'
dry slick racing at it's best!
On hand from the Coach's racing team
we're Tom and Ruth Brooks, bad Brad
Winters, Steven Francis jr, Bobbie
Jean,and myself. Also hanging with
us in the pits were Kevin Nueville
taking pictures.
We drew pill #12 tonite so we ended
up on the front row of the heat and
the main, for the heat we lead a few
laps before the #11 of Mark Myers
smoked on by to win, with a few
changes we hustled out to barely tag
the dash and tested those changes
with a combined race with the mods
(was actually a pretty good/close
battle) also won by the #11.
We (crew) have worked really hard
trying to find a good enough setup
to give the #11 a battle for the
win, but always seem to end up way
too loose no matter what, the same
happened tonite as well. At the
green I fell in behind the 11 car as
I watched him get smaller and
smaller i started really pushing the
car and spun myself coming off turn
4,darnit, on the restart I went high
and stayed on the outside making it
back up to second at the checkered,
whew!
Next race, Tucson 10-03-09
see ya then......

Recap -- by Butch Reid
The Coach's Late Model team made the
trip to Tularosa this weekend to
make our second race of the season
in the Rocket chassis late model.
While i'm working down south and
came up through Cloudcroft, Coach,
Ruth, Darren, Steven (traveling in
the rig), and Bobbie Jean with
boyfriend Zach in tow, made the trip
down south from the big city to
Tularosa! Thanks to all you guys for
your efforts this weekend, been
awhile since we last raced, but we
hit on at least 7 cylinders sat.
nite!
We made some wet hot laps early on
but learned nothing, so we tackled
the heat race with a loose car not
sure of where we were on setup, but
we knew now! Starting 5th I made
some ground up to finish 3rd in the
heat.
With the heat behind us the fire
drill began to tighten up for this
VERY slick track, so let the
learning curve begin, we had
qualified for the trophy dash but
didn't quite make it out in time
with the fire drill going on, so we
geared up for some intermission hot
laps to see where we were at for
setup.
With more adjustments made we lined
up for the main in 4th,passing on
the high side I took the lead at lap
3, pulling away from the field until
a caution, on the restart the 11 car
got under me and took the lead away,
trying different lines to no avail I
came home in 2nd, shucks.
thanks to all who helped out, we'll
keep everyone updated!

Recap -- by Butch Reid
As some of you know I've taken a job
down here in Carlsbad in the oil
patch cause work there at home was
non-existent, and with that said my
race cars are parked for now waiting
on the lottery to come in? So when I
tell you I raced last nite you'll
wonder how, I had planned to go with
Butch jr and Zach to Eunice to help
pit and I did, but after we got
there Robert Gregg asked me to drive
his modified so we were racing!!!!
Friday nite we all went to
Roadrunner/Happy Valley raceway in
Carlsbad so Zach could get some
laps, after a good run in his heat
he was ready for the feature, at the
green he battled hard and made his
move to the front wearing out the
leader, at the white he drove it in
hard in turn one to come out of two
side by side, bumping and rubbing
all the way down the back chute they
entered turn 3 side by side, coming
off turn four we were all on our
feet as Zach came home in a photo
finish 2nd place, darnit, but what
an awesome run for the 15 yr
old, next time we told him 4 wheels
turn better than two so don't lift!
Off to Eunice we were, with Butch
jr's mod and Zach's hobby stock,
since they had a rain out last time
they ran with only the heats being
finished, we were in for a double
feature nite.
Butch jr started 3rd row outside and
wasted no time getting to the front,
at lap 3 of the first feature he was
in the lead and checking out on the
rest of the field, if not for the
one and only caution he would have
lapped most of the field, as he went
on to win the main event,
Yeah!!!!!!!
Zach ran 7th in the first main as he
was trying to race with no tearoffs,
not good!
This is when my ride developed as
Robert Gregg asked me to shoe his
hotrod cause he wasn't feeling good,
so with my racing gear 90 miles away
in my truck I hustled some stuff and
headed off to the heat race, knowing
I was gonna take it easy in this
unfamiliar car I backed up at the
start only to charge back toward the
front in the latter laps to finish
4th(right behind jr) in a 7 car
field, so that qualified me for the
front half of the main, cool!
Zach ran his main first and the not
raced on track for 6 weeks or so
came apart to the point of holes the
size of Volkswagens, YIKES...being a
rookie this was another step in his
development towards stardom
(someday).
anyway he struggled some and again
came home 7th in the main, good run.
For the mod main I lined up 4th,jr
was 7th,at the green I got a good
start falling in line 3rd on this
rough, one lane, around the bottom
dry track, hoping I could keep up
and maybe move forward we were a
freight train around the bottom
making it hard to pass, on lap three
I got hit entering turn one and he
finished me off spinning me into the
infield, darnit, an ol foe #85 from
years ago getting some payback from
??,who knows, but he got sent to the
rear and I got my spot back, back to
green, as I raced this NEW car I was
trying to learn it and race to win
at the same time, others with a
zillion laps at this place and not
in a NEW car where going to the
front, so I backed up a few spots
till I got the best line I could
find to keep up, Butch jr passed me
on the high side (I was holding him
up) to finish 7th,and I was under
his quarter panel at the checkered
finishing 8th,alot of bruised ego's
after a follow the leader race like
this, and bent bumpers as well, but
as time passes cooler heads will
prevail, or so they say?!
Thanks to Robert Gregg for the
opportunity to race tonite, as time
goes on we'll see how much racing
I'll get to do, but I did tonite,
and got to race with Butch jr as
well, how cool is that!
Next week we'll be in Tularosa at
White Sands Speedway with the
Coach's Chassis late model team
hoping to have too much fun!!!!!
Sandia Motor Speedway 08/08/09
Recap -- by Butch Reid
The late model team plans to take on
White Sands speedway on 8-22-09 at
Tularosa, so make plans to come
watch.
At Sandia last nite I had Bobbie
Jean their to help with setups and
Robert Shay to crew as well, thanks
guys, for the heat we lined up
7th,someone oiled or anti freezed
the track down cause it sucked all
nite. Anyway I raced pretty good for
a few till I realized track was the
issue for all of us, finished toward
the rear of the heat.
With some deliberation between me
and the crew we made some changes,
went to the scales for pre tech and
as we rolled on we noticed we had a
flat left rear tire so back to our
pit. Next trip to the scales we were
too low, different tire I guess,
next trip we were good to go, so at
the green from our 11th starting
position we moved forward from the
git go to race with the 31. At lap
14 I was under him down the back
shute and could see the 0 car way
high up ahead, so as we entered the
corner it was me side by side with
the 31 car, as the 0 car decided he
was coming to the bottom,
whoa...some excitement I reckon as
we locked em up, the 31 locked em
up, the 31 hit the 0, I made minor
contact with the 31, and the 0 spun
from the contact. So...I thought a
trip to the hot pits was in order to
examine the damage, with everything
looking ok we rejoined the field
toward the rear and hammerd down
headed back to the front, some
pretty exciting racing going on as I
finished 5th at the checkered flag
nipping on the 00 cars heels. race
was won by the 63 car of Charlie
Daniels from his pole starting
position so congrats to him!
WE will miss most of the rest of the
shows at Sandia for the remainder of
the season, but want to say thanks
to most out there. Monte and crew
are working very hard(against in
house old ways) to try and bring
this place back to a good place to
race. Keep up the good work Monte,
hopefully you'll get some support
down the road!
see ya'll at Tularosa in two
weeks......
White Sands Speedway 08/01/09
Recap -- by Butch Reid
My original game plan was to travel
to Tularosa to help pit for Butch jr,
Mark Myers, and maybe help out Alan
Bowers, but with TOO much free time
on my hands i've been working on
B.J.s modified and on Sat. I
realized it could race today if I
got with it, so I got with it and
'got er done'!
After calling Bobbie to see if she
could make the trip and drive her
car(she had to work) I decided with
money a tight as it is to load up
the open trailer for economy reasons
since JR would be there with plenty
of tools etc.,and that made it a 1
tank round trip, this being a test
session since this car was in the
fence last time out I would be happy
if we finished the race.
Thanks to Leroy @ BodyCrafters for
his continued help, and Coach's
Chassis as well, couldn't keep going
with out them, there two were
instrumental in getting the black
car back as cherry as it is!
To the track, lots of familiar faces
every time I travel to tularosa, and
Butch jr had some buds in tow as
well, so we got some serious bench
racing done while there. Mac
McCutchen does such a wonderful job
promoting White sands speedway it
makes you want to support him and
the track!
With pill draws in order I drew 49
for me,46 for jr, damm, could of
been worse,'not', of 50,anyway,I was
lined up in heat one starting
6th,with a decent start and unsure
of my mount, I realized early I had
no rear brakes, not good on a wet
track, so.....I quit using em so as
not to slide the nose to the wall,
and finished 4th with a very good
turning race car, but now I needed
to find out waassuupp with the rear
brakes!
After trying to bleed hoping that
was the problem, we found the brake
pushrod was backed out of the
clevis, 'what', so with that
repaired we readied for the main.
Butch jr pulled off in his heat
because of a vibration, which turned
out to be mud in the rr wheel, whew!
For the main I lined up 10th,jr was
12th. At the green I picked off a
few and raced hard with jr battling
behind me, with a yellow coming out
I lifted and jr went by, thinking he
made the pass he fought the ol man
hard for the spot so I gave it up
thinking I had a good enough car to
get it back, well almost, we ran the
high line, we ran the low line, we
had a good race with jr
finishing 10th,and me 11th,Johnny
Scott won from the pole? What's up
with these line ups? Anyway, other
than the track watering the top at
intermission and causing a couple of
wrecked race cars since they told no
one and didn't pack it in, the
racing was good and clean!
I got to watch some of the late
model action and it was all Mark
Myers uncontested, looked like a
good battle from 3rd on back but I
don't know results, this will be an
awesome track to race on regularly!
Next week I should be at Sandia with
the ever growing car counts there,
maybe we'll eventually win one this
year, lots of good competition this
year so hope to see you there!!!
Like most racers this tough economy
is definitely a factor in my racing,
so we're constantly looking for
someone to work with as a team for
sponsorship, so jump on board and
let's win some races!!!!!!!
see ya at the track........

Recap -- by Butch Reid
Well folks I have to say i've been
excited about this weekend since I
found out my grandson, Zachary, was
coming this weekend with his hobby
stock to try some asphalt racing (he
is a big #24 Jeff Gordon fan), his
dad is still a die hard dirt guy,
but I won't hold that against him.
My good friend and engine builder
for many years (Kenny Myers) was
honored last nite, along with others
who have passed on but have touched
us all in some way in the racing
world, I will always have fond
memories of my many hours spent
either riding down the highway
headed to some distant track, or in
the engine building room talking
about cam timing or ? for hours on
end, or listening to Roy D.Mercer in
the cassette talking about 'Whoop a
grams"! I miss ya bud!
On to racing, Bobbie jean made it to
the track tonite to help out dad and
hang with brother Butch jr and
nephew Zachary, after making several
spring changes during the week to
try and help my loose entry problem
I think we made some improvement
this weekend, after practice though
we did make a shock change as well
which also seemed to help, anyway
for the heat we lined up 6th I
believe and knew right away we were
headed in the right direction, when
the green flew I followed the 08
through the 12 car field heat race
toward the front, the 7 won, the
08,and myself seemed to pull away to
a pretty fast paced race, I was
decent but now I knew what I needed
for the main.
Zachary started outside pole of his
8 car hobby heat race, being his
first ever pavement race I knew he
would find the limit to tire grip,
and he did spin once, but that's a
good thing cause now he knows how
hard he can drive it in?! He did
great and finished 4th in the heat.
Sam Hodges from Eunice, the track
owner at Cardinal Motor Speedway
there, was here also with son Cody
and his hobby stock to try their
hand at the $1k to win prize,
unfortunately they fought axle
bearing problems all weekend, sorry
guys for your bad luck, they had fun
and said they would come back for
some pavement racing again soon.
On to the mains:
With much confusion at the line up
board over why we run a heat race?
We were lined up 8th for the
feature, again behind the 08 car, at
the green we followed the 08 through
to be in 3rd after a handful of laps
and began trying to run down the two
leaders (wasn't sure who the leaders
were for a while with all the lapped
traffic), boy there wasn't a dull
moment out there with the x-mods
running their own race along with
the A mod race at the same time!
It was exciting from where I sat so
I would imagine it was from the
stands as well.
As the laps wound down seemed like I
would catch the two leaders then
lapped traffic would slow me down
some then to my surprise the 7 car
running second would spin coming off
turn two with 10 to go, i'm thinking
this is my shot as I was on the 08's
bumper at the restart, never
slipping too much I actually gave
the 08 a love tap at one point, but
I couldn't get by as fuel burnoff,
hot tires, got both of us loose
toward the end, so we were
bridesmaids one more time, you know,
first loser.
So congratulation the Willis Johnson
on the win tonite in the A mod
feature!
To the hobby main, with the car
count lower than the track had
hoped, they decided the combo mod
and x-mod race was so good they
combo'd the hobby's and street as
well for their main, with the
streets starting to the front
Zachary was about 12th or so in line
at the start he raced hard and
battled with the #1 for while and
would pull away to lap him, to a 3rd
place finish in the main, Good job
Zachary!!!!!!!
Stay tuned to my upcoming schedule
as the budget and the late model
schedule will change.
see ya at the track!!!

Recap -- by Butch Reid
With my crew chief absent tonite
cause she's working, I set out to go
have fun and try not to stress over
setups etc. Well I did have fun but
trying not to stress over pavement
setups is asking a bit too much!
With 16 cars on hand we had two
heats and I lined up 4th, at the
green we went forward a lap or two
then I realized how darn loose the
car was, I should've finished 2nd,
but 4th was it. It's that setup
thing you know?
Tired of the loose car I've fought
the last couple of races I made a
major spring change to tighten 'er
up! Good luck with that huh!
Starting 7th in the A I raced hard a
the beginning with a much better
car, but still loose of the corner,
anyway had some exciting laps
running the outside line for many
laps side by side with the 00,
finishing 6th at the end, oh well
next time.
We hung out tonite and didn't work
too hard, hot tonite too, so this
ole guy took it a little easy!
I don't know what our immediate
schedule will be with a motor at the
engine shop, and a car on the frame
machine, and work slow as heck, stay
tuned for the updates.
see ya at the track.......

After much work to repair my Coach's
Chassis modified since our one and
only trip to UCS in Grants, I've
been making the switch so as to be
able to race the car at imca race
tracks such as aztec, eunice, etc.
So special thanks to Coach's
Chassis, M.A.D. graphic's,
Bodycrafters, Wyoming Service
center, and the crew, Bobbie Jean,
Leon Schmitt, and Alan Bowers, who
was a great asset this weekend!
With Alan pulling Bobbie's car to
aztec she was able to race this
weekend with a quik break between
school and work, we all converged on
the banked speedway on this 4th of
july early enough to do so much
needed catching up with bench racing
around the area with some locals.
With no point average we would both
be in the back of heat races, her in
the second heat, me in the third, 20
mods on hand, I took the green and
worked passed a couple cars to
finish second chasing the 98 car of
kevin brown at the checkered, that
would put me in the front 12
inversion for the main. Bobbie did
real good passing to finish 4th in
her heat (more from her on that).
With lots of setup prep from crew
Leon & Alan, we readied for the
main, I would line up 12th,Bobbie
14th,at the green I got a pretty
good first start picking off a few
on the first corner and down the
back shoot when the yellow flew,
looking down the back strait I could
see a car in the wall at turn 3,
darn it, it was Bobbie's car. The
car was wounded but Bobbie was ok,
but not happy! Some schmuck put her
in the fence driving like an idiot!
Making it very hard for me to
continue the track crew stopped me
to reassure the Bobbie was ok, so on
to the restart we went, with a few
restarts we got to green flag racing
and we had a pretty good hot rod,
with this being our first trip here
for our setup we were close, not
perfect, but close. Anyway we raced
up to 5th at one point but with the
engine over heating I slowed on the
white flag to finish 8th, good
racing here with the front runners,
the rookies in the back need to get
a grip, but I guess you have some of
that everywhere?
Good to see old friends here in
aztec, good crew up here from the
tech guys to the flagman, to the
awesome announcing from Lynn
Hensley!
We'll be back.......
Bobbie's car is wounded, but not her
spirits, she was on my tail looking
to race with dad for 24 more laps,
so we'll try and fix her car and
schedule another weekend in the
future!
With the 15bj driver turning 19 this
tuesday we will be having some cake
and ice cream to celebrate!!!!!
See ya'll at the track.......

Recap -- by BobbieJean Reid
Well this was a very fun weekend
away from school and work for me. I
had a tight schedule with school and
work but found time Thursday and
Friday to help out Daddy and Leon
get the cars ready to rock and roll
up to Aztec. Alan Bowers was kind
enough to offer to tow up the black
#15bj modified that I've been
driving lately. Thanks Alan! Once
our whole crew was there(Leon, Me,
Daddy and Alan), we got the cars off
the trailers and started to get
ready to pack. Unfortunately,
modifieds were asked to pack (seems
a little silly with the Crate Models
there with wide tires). But we
headed out onto the sloppy, slimy
track and tried to stay as clean as
possible. That didn't work out to
well since we forgot to lube the
cars up with baby oil. Good thing we
had a great hard workin crew that is
experienced at scrapin'!! ;) I
lined up in the back of the second
heat race since I didn't have a
point average for the season. It
took me awhile to get a good handle
on the car. After all, I don't race
too often! But I was keepin up with
the field and also keepin the car
under me! I was chasin down the #4
car and trying to watch his line. I
felt confident and was fast enough
and passed him coming out of turn
four at the white flag. I kept him
behind me to the checkered and
finished fourth!
As Leon, Daddy and me discussed what
we thought the track was gonna do;
we made adjustments and watched some
good racin'! Again, I'd like to
thank the crew for being so amazing
and on top of things all night! With
two cars, to get ready and alot to
do, we had to rush to get ready. We
headed to staging with hopes that we
made the right decisions in regards
to setup. I lined up on the seventh
row outside, right behind the famous
#5 of Butch Reid :). With such a pro
ahead of me, I decided I'd just
follow him to the front! They gave
us the "one til green" sign and the
field packed in tight! My heart was
racin' and I sure was excited to
race with all these guys! They threw
the green and I followed #5 around
the outside. We cleared alot of cars
by the time we were coming down the
back stretch! My car felt amazing, I
barely lifted! I was right on Dad's
bumper as we headed into turn three.
I was about the lift off the
throttle as I felt a rough contact!
I was headed straight towards the
wall with no chance of missing. I
did all I could by standing on the
breaks and letting go of the wheel.
I hit the wall nearly head-on and
within seconds, I felt another hard
hit. A car couldn't miss me and
clipped my right rear. After hitting
the wall so hard, I had the wind
knocked out of me but I was ok. As
soon as the tow truck drivers let me
know the car wasn't able to race, I
started to unstrap myself. I was
pretty upset because I sure was
lookin forward to racin with my dad,
especially with such a hooked up
car! They towed me in and I got a
good look at it. The right front
bump steer bolt was snapped in two
and the right frame horn took a
pretty hard hit. We're not sure if
the chassis is bent yet but we'll
keep you posted with updates. The
fan hit the radiator and that's
always a bummer. The #4 car that hit
my right rear didn't do any damage
to the frame (thank goodness), but
he did put a pretty good dent in the
fuel cell. So, our crew has alot of
work to do before the car is ready
to go again. We're not quite sure
when I'll be able to race again, but
hopefully not too long. Until then,
I'm going to continue to focus on
school and makin a living. Be sure
to check the schedule to see when
and where Dad will be racing next!
Thanks for all your support! I'd
like to give a big HUGE thank you to
my amazing father for allowing me
the opportunity of racing this
weekend. You're the best, Daddy-O!

Recap -- by Butch Reid
With a week between races you would
think you couldn't mess things up
too bad, tinker itus?
Great turnout tonite with 14 mods,
some first timers so we tried to
spread some good will and help
several guys get up to speed tonite,
and most were a lot happier after
the changes than what they showed up
with.
I started 6th in heat two, at the
green I followed the 08 thru and the
00 followed me, that's the way we
ran for 10 laps, my car was a little
off but not junk, so we made minimal
changes for the feature.
For the main we lined up 5th, I
heard pill draw was 8 for the
inversion, anyway at the green
(after a 3 wide salute to the fans)
we fell into 3rd at lap 1 but
started going backward right away,
way loose off the corners. So when a
caution came out at lap 3 or so, I
darted to hot pits and had the crew
put some rounds in to the sway bar
and headed back on track, at the
green I don't think they knew what
to do with me so even though we had
lapped a couple cars, they left me
in the rear, so at the green the 04
was slow to get going and not to
pass before the flagstand, I waited
till turn 1 to make the pass and the
field was gone! So on the hammer
with a much better car we raced all
the way to the checkered without
another caution and I made it to 6th
I believe at the end. Not happy with
my setup efforts tonite, cause
I usually don't miss the main setup
that bad, but we made up some spots
after the hot pit and hopefully put
on a show trying to get back to the
front!
Thanks to crew; Bobbie Jean, bad
Brad Winters, Leon Schmitt, and
caitie woosley (Bobbie's friend) for
their awesome efforts tonite!
Coach's Chassis, couldn't do it with
out them, Danny @ Action Alignment,
and Wyoming Service Center. Thanks
to you all!
Management at sandia seems to be
headed in the positive direction and
I give them a big pat on the back
tonite as well!
The game plan is to head to Aztec
next Sat. with both dirt cars, after
mucho repair since our Grants
weekend, we should be putting
graphics on this week.
So,we'll see ya at the
track...........
Sandia Motor Speedway 06/20/09
Recap -- by Butch Reid
After sitting for a full year the
Reidracing team drug out the trusty
ol'Harris Pavement car and began the
restoration so we could tear up some
pavement tonite!
The Friday nite practice was a much
needed test session for us since we
worked on car issues more than
setup, but after a couple sessions
on the track we had a game plan for
the Sat. show, a gear change for
one, and fine tune the setup on the
car. So sat. the crew made the gear
change, made jet changes to the carb,
worked tires to find the right setup
and called it ready in time for the
second practice session.
For the qualifying we went out
second and set second fast time, so
what they did was invert the
fast times to put me 5th in
the
dash line up out of the
quickest 6 cars? Don't know where
that procedure came from, but oh
well, so at the green the 63 got
loose in turn one and I shot low to
lead every lap of the dash, YEAH!
Dash winner!
For the main they drew a pill to
determine how many would invert,
pill 3 was drawn so I started 6th in
the feature, some different stuff
went on in line ups tonite but I
guess it all turned out ok.
At the
green flag of the A, the 08
was in front of me and entering turn
one the 31 slid up the track, the 09
slowed a bit, so the 08 cut low to
take the point off turn two and I
followed. Racing had only one
caution at lap three, then all the
way to lap 50, whew, as we raced I
knew I was better than the 08 so I
thought I would save tires and ride
along far awhile, well entering turn
one I got in a little hot and the 00
got me off two, darnit @#$%^&* (must
of been napping), anyway I had to
get up on the wheel the rest of the
way to make up for that mistake,
trying the outside line I couldn't
quite get it done cause the 00 would
slide up off four and take my line
away, so back to the bottom I tried
to follow the 00 as he passed the
08,but it took me another few laps
to get it done, and the 00 had made
serious ground before I cleared the
08,pushing hard I reeled the 00 in
but came up short at the checkered
to finish second! Great race with
lots of good racing going on,
congrats to the 00 car on the win!
Thanks to crew Mike Walker, Robert
Shay, Bobbie Jean, Curtis Berry who
made his pavement debut, and Tim
Lamm who came and had fun as well!
Good job to Monte for his tireless
efforts in trying to help the track,
hopefully a new vision and direction
will be the end result!
Also, I'd like to congratulate Butch
Jr. on winning the modified main
event at Cardinal Motor Speedway on
06/20/09. Good job!
Finally a shout out to Charlie
Daniels, who supplied me with some
used tires. Also thanks to Danny
from Action Alignment for he
continued support! Thanks guys!
We will be back to
Sandia to race, not sure of
the dates as of yet, but we'll let
you know!
See ya at the track...........
Uranium Capital Speedway (Grants) 06/06/09
Recap -- by Butch Reid
First off I want to say thanks to
all the club people that run this
race track, always make you feel
welcome, and on their budget a
pretty good facility. It does need
some attention in a few areas but
like they say 'at least we still
have a race track'! Lighting would
probably be my biggest issue. The
racing surface was surprisingly
good, I say that because I've not
been there since 1997,and from what
I could see looked like lots of good
racing in all divisions, so thumbs
up to the track personnel!
Now to the other stuff, my day here
didn't start out too good, in the
hot lap session I new I
should've pulled in instead of going
green cause the track was way too
muddy still. But I did, with some
cars slicing thru the field trying
to win hot laps, the 12 car spun in
turn one and I slammed right into
him, I should have pulled in!
Limping to the pits we thrashed to
make the heat race, hoping we found
all the issues. Well we didn't, but
starting 2nd in the heat we finished
2nd with a very ill car. Back to the
pits!
After more thrashing we lined up 6th
for the main, lots and lots of
yellows, track very dry and slick,
cars driving so low in turn two they
kept loose stuff all over the track
in that corner. With going backwards
for awhile I managed to find a
better line for a while and moved up
to 3rd at one point, but my HIGH
line went away at the end and I
finished 5th, Bobbie Jean must of
been in the hunt cause she finished
7th, good job Bobbie Jean!
Thanks to crew; Steven Francis jr,
Leon Schmitt, myself, and B.J.
Other notes; to the driver of the
09, none of us had a good race but
the winner. You need to calm down
after the race before you shoot your
mouth off in the future. I might be
an old guy, but you don't know me
very well if you think your lip last nite will be forgotten. There may
not be anyone there next time to
keep me off you, so consider this my
only warning, I don't do lip
service, next time there will be NO
warning!
I can't say exactly where my next
race will be, repair work continues,
so stay tuned. Was really good to
get to race with B.J., and I think
she had a really good time. She'll
be driving right by me pretty soon.
see ya at the track!!!!!!!!
El Paso Speedway Park Recap 05/29/09
Recap -- by Butch Reid
On the road again, something I've
always loved doing, but now it's the
highway or no way at all for dirt
racers in the Albq. area!
With the car loaded up on Thursday I
headed out Friday am and had a game
plan with several stops in mind,
methanol from Rick's performance,
fuel from the pilot in Las Cruces
(had a gift card from the march race
down there), a stop at Barnett
Harley to say hi to those guys, and
to the track by 5pm,so that's how it
went.
With no point average (they do the
imca point average line up
procedure), we would line up 6th in
heat three,23 cars on hand with 4
heats, with a tight car I worked the
track trying real hard to get
comfortable with this hammer down
fast 3/8 mile track, finishing 5th
in the heat I would start 15th in
the A main. As the track slicked off
I hoped I would be a little better
than the fast hammer down heat race.
At the green we moved forward to
join a fierce battle right in front
of me between the g-17 and 67,with
the 44 and 111 also in a battle.
Going into turn one the g-17 set it
sideways to avoid the spinning 67
and I drove right into him
straightening him out I got sent to
the rear(!@#$%^&*() dammit, to try
and battle my way back to the front
I moved to the high line for a few
laps on the restart only to realize
I wasn't going forward, so moving
back to the bottom I began to pick
cars off about one per lap, at the
checkered we were scored 10th, not
bad since 10 laps before I was in
last place, but the track was black
and oh so smooth! Just my style!
Anyway, thanks to Royal, Jimmy,
Bryan, Annette and the rest of the
el paso crew who made me feel at
home. Also to my crew; Vince LaPasti
who lives in El Paso and came out to
help an old guy play in the dirt!
I drove to Las Cruces Friday nite
and found a room to ready for sat in
Cruces, after the incident in turn
one I had some repair to do and a
gear change was in order as well!
And being offered more southern
hospitality I had somewhere to do
all that, more on that in the cruces
recap...........
Southern New Mexico Speedway Recap
05/30/09 -- by Butch Reid
With the southern hospitality
continuing I was offered up the
opportunity to hang out at Jimmy
Ray's shop to make a gear change and
do some serious bench racing with
Jimmy and Hobbs, N.M. racer Greg
Jenkins #2,so after all the racing
world problems were solved we headed
out to one of Jimmy's favorite
mexican food restaurants and chowed
down on some good green chili fixins.
Off to the track now we would all
put on our race faces to hopefully
challenge for the win!
The track decided with so many out
of towners to do a pill draw for the
mods, I drew 32 which put me 3rd row
outside in heat two. Off at the
green we made a charge to finish 3rd
at the checkered, cool, no B main
for me!
For the A we would line up 10th,at
the green we made some progress
early making it to 7th-8th or so,
thinking I wasn't too far off on
setup I think the rough track just
wore me out or my line went away
cause after 3 locals passed me I
finished 11th out the 30 or so that
showed up and all started the A,not
where I thought we would finish but
I suck on rough race tracks, jusy
won't stay in it lap after lap and
abuse MY equipment!
Thanks again to all the Speedway
people who made all us locals feel
right at home!
Congrats to Jimmy and Royal on their
wins this weekend!
See ya'll at a track down the road!
Odessa Texas; Butch jr ran 4th in
the feature-good job!
Hollywood Hills Speedway
05-16-09 Recap – by Butch
Reid
Tinal race for all but sprints is in
the books, whew!!!!!!!
Bury the hatchet on this joint
(insert photo of hatchet buried in
casino hollywood marqius), whatever
the future of this joint brings to
the people of N.M. we all need to
understand it's not for anyone's
benefit but the tribe!
Thanks to the Benji Lyons promotion
team for trying to make something
good happen at this finest of racing
facilities, sorry you took it in the
shorts like the racing community has
been here for some time.
Mods on hand were 27, with 4 heats,
a 'B' and an 'A' main on the line up
board, with the extra money several
hitters showed up to try and take
the prize.
Bobbie drew me pill 20, she elected
to run scratch in the heat, her in
heat 2, me in heat three row 2
inside. At the green I pulled into
3rd place behind the 58 car. After a
lap of knowing what I had under me I
pulled under him off turn 2, I think
he must of been loose cause he came
down the track sending me into the
infield. Not stopping, I finished
the race in 4th with a ton of toe
out in the front end.
We repaired and readied both cars
for some more action. Bobbie was in
the 'B' starting 10th.
They would transfer 8 to the 'A' so
she would have to get a little racey
to get er done. As the race
progressed you could see the rookie
learn as each lap went by. At the
checkered she made the pass on the
8th place car to make the transfer
YEAH............!
So now two cars to try and put up
front, my finish put me 15th in the
'A', Bobbie 25th. At the
green of the main I started behind
the 82 of Sherm Barnett. Entering
turn 3 of lap one he went high. He
must of known something I didn't,
cause I went low and the 58 got
sideways right in front of me,
darnit. with no room between him and
the implement tires I clipped the
BIG tire off turn 4 and got a flat.
So after a trip to the hot pits, I
restarted in the rear of a 25 car
field. They began cutting laps every
time a yellow came out and there
where a bunch of yellows, dry track
I guess. Anyway we had a good hotrod
and each time we got some green laps
in I went forward. Finally at about
lap 10 (green flag laps) the
checkered flew and I was battling
for 7th place, a little loose off
turn 4 I finished 8th.
Wow, from 25th in those few laps,
who knows how good we really were in
the whole field because of the
shortened race, but both cars came
home without a scratch so that’s a
plus! B.J. finished 15th, great race
for her.
Thanks to crew on hand; Mike Walker,
Leon Schmitt, Bad Brad Winters,
myself and Bobbie Jean.
Lots of friends around visiting
tonight about history and what might
of been, and where do we go from
here?
We all know this deal really sucks
for all of us in the racing
community. Maybe it's a reality
check for some, a chance to go to
the lake, home projects etc. what
will happen though is we will lose
some racing people because of the
void, cars will sell, trailers
parked or traded for rv's, and so
on. I've seen it before, so
whereever we end up, it will be
between trips doing other stuff, and
supporting my college student.
OTHER NEWS:
Butch jr lead every lap of the 'A'
main in Odessa to win the feature,
congratulations to him, he must be
on a roll cause he left the casino
in Ruidoso with $750 of their money
this week also, cool!
Zachary continues his learning curve
in the Hobby stock division,
finishing one spot out of the 'B' to
'A' transfer, you'll get em next
time.
They will be in Eunice next week.
See ya'll somewhere!

05-16-09 Recap – by BobbieJean
Reid
Well tonight was a great night. It
started on Friday night with the
great help of Mike Walker and my
awesome Daddy-O! We got the cars
ready to rock and roll and loaded 'em
up pretty late that night. Then came
the night of rest of course! The
next morning, Mike Walker graciously
towed my black car out to the track
while me and Daddy towed the big
trailer. Since we were already ready
to go for the most part, we just did
a little touch up and small
maintenance before they sent us
modifieds out to pack in the track.
It was pretty wet and slimy for a
rookie!
They gave us about three hot laps
which didn't do much for me :( After
that, we got both Modifieds ready to
run the heat races. Thanks to Bad
Brad, Leon, and Mike W. for all your
help tonight! You guys really are
amazing help! I started scratch in
the second heat race. Trying to find
a line and learn my way around the
track, I just followed the pack. I
ended up finishing where I started
but sure learned a lot about the
track in those 10 laps. Since the
top four transferred to the "A" and
there were seven cars in my heat
race, I had to run the "B" Main.
That turned out to be a pretty good
thing. I got a lot of laps in and
raced pretty hard for the transfer
spot. As I was given the white flag,
the leader was about to lap me and
was given the checkered. I was also
coming up on a lap car while racing
side by side with the number 3G car.
Coming out of turn two, I lapped the
23 car on the inside while the 3G
decided to take the high side. I
turns out I picked the right line
cause I passed 'em both and took the
checkered flag at 8th place- the
last transfer spot!
So we added some fuel and headed to
staging for the "A" main which was
$100 to start!!! Now, I wasn't racin'
for the money but it sure was a
bonus! I lined up near the back in
the 23rd spot since I transferred
from the "B" and started behind the
number 55. I was so excited to go
out and see what I could do after
such an amazing "B" main! Well,
there were QUITE a few yellow flag
laps so I didn't get the chance to
really race anyone. It seems there
was a yellow every other lap.
Unfortunately, some drivers didn't
want to cooperate with the black
flag. Some stayed on the track after
causing two or more cautions and
continued to cause cautions... So,
we ran about 50 or so yellow flag
laps and possibly five real
green-flag/racing laps. Fortunately,
I was not involved in any cautions,
nor did I cause any. I do have to
say that was one of my top goals for
tonight! YAY! I avoided a lot of
wrecks by serving to miss spinning
cars. Again, I learned a lot out
there! I ended up finished 15 out of
the 25 cars that started. Please
check the website frequently for any
updates on our racing schedule.
Hollywood Hills Speedway will no
longer be running this season so we
are forced to find a new place to
race. With College Summer classes,
my schedule will be pretty booked!
I'll letcha know when we're goin and
where as soon as we know! Check the
"schedules" link on the homepage for
this information, as it may change
frequently. Thank you for your
support and I hope to see you soon!
Lady Luck Speedway/Cardinal Motor
Speedway 5-08-09/5-10-09 Recap – by Butch
Reid
Thank goodness racing season is here
and we racers have so many options!
A buddy in Carlsbad asked if I was
coming racing this weekend and
offered up a ride in a 06 Shaw
modified since mine is not imca
legal,so off to Lubbock, Texas I
headed on Friday to meet up with
Brian Prouty and crew and my son
with nephew Josh as crew.
This car I was to run hadn't been
run since it was Brian’s backup car,
so gremlins were expected (by me
anyway). At the track we prepped for
a track I had never seen before—Lady
Luck Speedway--Lubbock, Texas, a
small, flat, hammer down place,
always turning. With it being my
first time there I started in the
back of heat 2, which was a good
thing for the car was all wheelied
up trying to knock the fence down
when on the gas. So we pulled in
early (white flag) and started
making changes to ready for the
main.
Starting 23rd, I hammered
at the green and moved past a few
cars to 15th or so in a green to
checkered race when the leaders came
around to lap the back cars, so I
moved to the top to not be in the
way and finished 19th.
Butch jr was 12th, Brian was 20th,
not all that good but all the
fenders were still on the cars so we
could work on more setup stuff on
sat morning instead of crash repair,
and that's what we did.
At Brian’s shop in Carlsbad we put a
setup on both his 07,and the 06 I
was driving. While tearing into
everything that I thought was an
issue, I found several, so we were
much more optimistic about sat nite
in Eunice at Cardinal Motor
Speedway. Butch jr, Josh, and my
grandson Zach were busy getting the
101 mod and Zach's hobby stock ready
for some sat nite action. After
finishing up/loading up at Brian's I
helped finish all that up. So off we
all went, me riding with nephew Josh
as co-pilot we caught up on family
b.s.!
At the track me and Brian both
planned to hot lap and we did, both
cars were still a little tight so we
made last minute adjustments, Zach
ran second in his heat, I started
7th and finished 4th,butch jr. got
hit and pulled in, and Brian ran 3rd
in his heat. So with all that the
scenario was Brian would be on the
pole of the 'A', I ended up pole of
the 'B' main, and Butch jr was 14th
in the 'B', which only eight would
transfer out of. Beside me in the
'B' was Jimmy Ray of Las Cruces. At
the green we battled hard swapping
the lead a few times until I changed
my line running the top of 1&2, and
the bottom of 3&4, checking out on
the rest of the field to win the 'B'
main, Butch jr ended up 9th, one
spot out of the transfer (darnit).
So now I would start 13th in the 'A'
car was so good for the 'B' minimal
changes were made for the 'A', at
the green I moved in hard on the 17m
and was on the move when the 16
knocked me up the track to the
outside groove (which wasn't there).
Now going backwards like gangbusters
finally a yellow came out and I got
back to the bottom on the restart.
From 13th to 20th back up to 10th at
the checkered, the car was pretty
good, probably top 5 car, which in
this bunch is awesome. Brian
finished 9th from his pole start and
was very excited. I think my setup
helped cause it was his best finish
in a while, cool!
Zach had some issues with the very
slick track while running second in
the main and after spinning came
back to about 6th in a field of 10
or so. Spinning out is part of the
learning curve when dirt racing, and
he'll be just fine!
Thanks to Brian Prouty for the
opportunity to drive a very good car
this weekend, his crew-Pops & A.J.,
Josh, Butch jr, and Zach, always fun
when racing with my kids.

Hollywood

Speedway 5-03-09 Recap – by Butch
Reid
After a Saturday rainout the track
rescheduled the show for Sunday @
2pm So with 3 race cars at the track
we were all chomping at the bit to
get some racing going on.
With most of our Coach's
racing/Reid racing crew on
hand; Tom and Ruth Brooks,
Kenny Todd, Bad Brad
Winters, Steven Francis jr,
truck driver extraordinaire
Darren, Mike Andrews, Robby
Smith, Mike Walker, myself
and Bobbie jean, we had a
full day ahead with lots of
racing on tap.
Bobbie drew me a good mod
pill-#6, but Steven did even
better with a 24 for the
late model heat, way to go
Steven!!!!
Bobbie elected to run
scratch all day.
Both of us were in the first
mod heat, at the green I
took the early lead with the
74t of J.Tanner on my heals.
About halfway he cleared me
and I went on to finish 2nd
for the heat.
The late model heat was
slick, we drove 'er in hard
to turn one and slid to the
wall,keeping it on the track
I moved forward to finish
2nd in the lm heat as well
behind the 96 of whitwell.
With the ever slick track we
would make some different
adjustments for the main
than normal in the l.m., the
mod changes were minimal
since I have been testing
all winter and we were
pretty sure of setups. So
with both mods set to go, we
took to the track. Me 5th
row inside, bj in the rear.
With a yellow or two we got
going for some green flag
racing and began our march
forward. Toward the end I
came up on bj in her black
beauty as I lapped her
trying to chase down the #4
of Stormy Scott. She was
looking good and finished
12th. Lapped cars made it
exciting at the end, but we
held onto a second place
finish and were very happy
after the results of the
first race of the year when
we got spun, and bj finished
with not a scratch, cool.
The late model race was on
from the green, slick,smooth,
and a little dusty. The
first start had the 47 of K.
Hill spin in turn one taking
out a couple cars and
sending me to the hot pits
for a right rear tire
change. Restarting last
after the hot pit I had to
make a charge from 15th or
so. It took me a few laps to
find a line I could make
some ground on the
competition, but once I did
I moved forward to 7th.
After a yellow on the
restart I worked by the 18
for 5th and was up on the 40
car on the white flag but he
shot down going in turn 3 in
front of me. Thinking 4th
wasn't worth wrecking for I
yielded and finished 5th,
not bad in this field, #8
parker jr won it congrats to
him see ya'll in two weeks
for the next mod show at HH.
Tell your friends, and bring
them along to the next race.

Hollywood

Speedway 5-03-09 Recap – by
Bobbie Jean
Reid
Thanks to Mike Walker, my
Daddy and myself working
hard on Friday night to get
the car ready, we headed out
to Hollywood Hills for my
dirt track debut! Mike
hauled my car out there for
me! (THANK YOU)
Unfortunately, the whether
was not on our side! After
being rained out for
Saturday night, our
marvelous new promoters
decided to reschedule for
Sunday May 3rd. Thank you so
much!
After all this anticipation
AND practice rainouts, I
sure was ready to get out
there and give the dirt a
try! With a marvelous crew
on hand tonight, the car was
ready to rock and roll. I
suited up and got ready to
slide around in packing
laps. I gotta say though, it
was pretty fun trying to
keep the car movin and not
get stuck! :) After that, I
headed back to the pits to
help scrape mud and get
ready for the heats! This
was a hectic night since our
crew had three cars to get
ready! Again, I'd like to
thank you all for your
dedication and hard (but
marvelous) work!! I went out
for heat races, with not
much experience behind me on
the dirt and had a BLAST! I
tried my hardest to be
comfortable with being
sideways and letting the car
slide through the corners.
It was pretty tough comin
from the pavement! But I
learned a lot out there and
felt I was starting to get
much more comfortable in the
car.
I started in the same heat
race with my daddy, he was
on the pole (thanks to my
pill-drawing skills) and I
was starting scratch next to
Stormy Scott. My focus was
to stay on the track, hold
my line and learn the track
lap by lap. I feel I did
pretty well thanks to a
reliable setup by Mr. Butch
Reid. I finished seventh out
of eight cars and I only
spun once! Luckily, I was
clear of traffic and got
back on the track quickly. I
had such a great time out
there, just learnin a little
bit at a time. I headed back
to the pits to tell the crew
how the car felt and to
consult with Mr. Reid
himself! Didn't have much
time though; remember we
have 3 cars to get ready!
Mike Walker, Robby Smith,
Mike Andrews, Kenny Todd,
Bad Brad Winters, Steven
Fracis, Daryn Fastnacht,
Coach, Ruth and some of Mark
Myer's crew were thrashing
and did a great job! Ruth
and Lisa made some GREAT
food to keep us all on our
feet! Me and daddy headed
out for the main event and I
was full of excitement!
Again, my concentration was
to be smooth and increase
with speed a little bit at a
time. 24 cars lined up side
by side and bumper to bumper
and waited for the green to
fly!
I started in the tenth row
on the inside. My heart was
racing the whole time and I
loved every minute of it.
There were quite a few
cautions out there (but I
didn’t cause any,
accomplishing one of my
goals) which took a little
too long to clean up. But
the racing went quick and
when I saw the checkered
flag, I couldn’t believe it
was already over. I finished
12th and learned
so much! The track was so
slick and it was hard to get
around the track but it sure
was a fine learning
experience! A HUGE thank you
goes out to my daddy for
giving me the opportunity of
racing! I’d also like to
thank the new track
promoters for doing such a
great job with the show.
Also, I had some really
clean racing tonight and
that’s always a bonus! I
hope to see you all out
there for the next race! May
16th at 7PM! The
modifieds are the premiere
division that night and it
is also Armed Forces
Appreciation night! Don’t
miss it!
Aztec Speedway 4-24-09 Recap
– by Butch Reid
Well we hit the highway
again this weekend in hopes
of making some laps in
Bobbie Jean's black modified
before she takes to the
banks of HH next weekend.
Arriving a little pressed
for time and travelling by
myself, we got after the
long tech line which was
extremely long due to 65
modifieds being on hand for
this two day WW tour imca
race. After some issues
being resolved after tech, I
prepped for some hot laps on
what looked to be some slick
race track. Sure enough it
was slick, but this track
seems to have grip even when
it's slick. Wow after 3 or 4
hot laps of getting faster
each lap and catching the
other cars on the track I
noticed the oil light came
on! @#$%^&* shucks (not
really what I said). I shut
‘er down and coasted to the
pits. After more examination
the crank case is full of
water(H2O), not good. So
with some local help we
loaded the car, returned the
rented transponder, and got
ready to watch some racing,
which was fast and furious
with 8 mod heats, 4 "B”
mains, and an A main, with
the winner being WW1 of
Ricky Alvarado.
Then I headed home thinking
“what next?” Thanks to Steve
Potts, who helped out in the
pits, and Allen Bradley as
well(who won the stock car
feature Friday night).
Always look forward to
racing in Aztec, you guys do
a good job!
See ya next time.
White Sands Speedway 4-25-09
Recap – by Butch Reid
Arriving home at 4am sat
morning sent me right to
lala land. but at noon I was
thinking “where can I go
race today with little time
to prepare?” White Sands
Speedway in Tularosa!
So out rolled the black car
and rolled in the Coach's
car. After minimal
maintenance with the time I
had to work with, off I
went. At the track I parked
amongst the guys who all
race Las Cruces/El paso on a
weekly basis, 17 mods in all
I believe was the car count.
The new owners here have
done a fantastic job
renovating the place and new
bathrooms and new clay on
the track.
With the gail winds that
tried to blow me towards
Texas on the way down, I was
pretty sure we were gonna
see a black slick track, and
we did! After the sun went
down the winds calmed some
for a great night of racing.
With a #37 pill I was in the
2nd heat front row outside,
at the green the 3 car
pushed me up the track going
into turn 3 so as to let the
second row get by as I'm now
up in the weeds, chasing him
down I got under him next
lap to take over 2nd, with
that I set my sights on the
111 car who was leading, as
he got smaller instead of
larger I was convinced I
needed to tighten up some
for the main event. Then to
my surprise the 2S passed me
of turn 4 for the checkered,
so we finished 3rd, behind
Bumper & Stormy.
The track did a nice
intermission presentation by
the Harlem Allstars with
hoops and kids everywhere on
the front straitaway, very
cool!
Then the top three from each
heat drew pills for the
main. Everyone drew before
me leaving me the last pill,
which was #1,wow,I'll never
draw again until last.
Well after the heat setup I
was busy making changes for
the ever drying and slick
track, hoping to be able to
hold off these hot shoes
from the pole. At the green
I knew I made the car too
tight, great forward bite,
but she wouldn't enter the
corner in a 40 acre field,
shucks! So it was a long
night and I finished 10th
with a plow for a race car.
Hopefully I can say I
learned something from it
all at least.
I picked up some help at the
track here as well, the
driver of the j7 limited
late model and his wife were
extremely helpful, thanks
guys!
Well I traveled a lot of
miles this weekend but I did
get some racing in, finally,
looking forward to next
weekend at HH with mods and
late models running.
see ya at the track!
Hollywood Hills Goes UMP West
Sanction for Modified Division--
by Butch Reid
New promoter Benji Lyons announced
through division leaders that HH
would follow what USA speedway in
Tucson is doing, which he also
promotes.
First race date at HH is April
18th,with the remainder of the
schedule TBA. Also expected is
the addition of the X-mod
division for HH racers and fans
with race dates unknown so far.
Stay tuned for future updates,
which we'll post as we get the
info. Our race plans this year
are now unknown. With this
sudden change of the game plan
at HH, I am looking at all other
options for my racing. Our
budget does not allow for the
changes in rules with the new
sanctioning we have been hit
with. We had planned on Bobbie
racing a dirt mod this year as
well, but plans have changed due
to the change in track plans.
Hopefully we can come up with
some more budget to allow us
both to race. We'll see.
Southern New Mexico Speedway
(Winter Meltdown) -- March 05-08,
2009
-- by Butch Reid
We made the effort and trip to the
Thursday practice night hoping to be
on top of a setup come Friday night!
After several hotlap sessions we
were certainly better than when
we unloaded, but not that good.
With a list of changes we
planned for some Friday night
racing.
With a mediocre pill on fri. I
couldn't get going in the heat.
Off a little in this field is
not good, so we lined up for the
'C'. After some changes we made
some progress and transferred to
the 'B'. Running the 'B' I felt
the car was close but still
struggled to maintain my
position. Anyway we couldn't get
to a transfer spot and was done
for the day.
Saturday-Looking forward to some
dryslick day racing we were, and
with the high winds that's what
we got! 80 pills today and I got
#71. 8th in the 6th heat we
lined up. Boy I went after max
forward bite for this deal so I
had some high hopes for the
heat.
At the green the car felt good,
more bite than before. By one
car and working on another he
held me up for a lap letting the
pack get away. Shucks, once by
him I pushed very hard catching
the pack at the checkered.
Pretty good car but a 6th place
finish puts you in a 'C' main.
In the 'C' we ran ok to make a
transfer to the 'B'. But once
the green dropped in the 'B' I
knew we we're gonna struggle and
we did. Not making the 8 car
transfer we we're done for the
night to lick our wounds or make
changes and improve!
Free beer and ribs for all,
whoopee!!! Under the lights of
the bonfire the crew worked
relentlessly (between beer &
ribs) making wholesale changes
for the Sunday show. Getting off
the rr two link setup we've run
all this past year (with much
success), we opted to four link
the rr with spring on the
birdcage in front (what most
everyone else is doing). So
thanks to all for sat' night!
Sunday-pill 11, not bad,
starting 6th in the first last
chance race. After the hot lap
session we (crew) felt we we're
definitely better than with the
previous setup,although a little
tight we hoped the track would
come to us (go dry) real quick.
At the green I hammered down
with a way tight car, finding
good moisture around the top and
a fast track. Running 5th I was
having to back the car in to
keep it turning. Even though we
we're hauling around the track,
I felt tight in/loose in the
middle/tight off. So at lap 3 I
got a little TOO sideways on
entry and spun,@#$%^&*(darn it)!
To the back I went for the
restart, passing some cars I was
in heavy traffic entering 3 &4,
went to go high and the car
would not turn........until it
collected the turn 4 concrete
barrier. To the hotpits I went.
The crew changed a right front
tire but I was told I caused two
cautions and had to headed for
the trailer ... done for the
weekend!
If I had it to do over, I would
have freed the car up some and
been better, so did we learn
anything? I think so. We will
continue to work with the 4-link
setup cause I believe for dry
it's a better deal.
Thanks to Brett who made the
trip over from Phoenix to help
out,and to Leon Schmitt who just
moved to town and was great
help, and to Bobbie Jean
(college student) who came to
play and help this weekend as
well. We all busted butt with
terrible results, but thanks to
you all for your help and
support and to the fans who came
and watched. We will get this
deal figured out so don't give
up on us! We haven't given up
yet and neither has Coach's
Chassis.
See ya at the track!!!!!!!!!
Canyon Raceway -- February
21 & 22,
2009
-- by Butch Reid
Been a nice long Winter series
and I brought all my stuff home
after Sundays race.
The drive over on Friday gave me
lots to think about on setup
stuff for the black car, so
finally at the track Brett &
I
got after it getting her ready
for some hot laps. After
repairing brakes we finally had
a good run on the tacky making
us smile,so on to sat we go.
With 50 cars checked in the pill
was gonna be important, #22, not
so bad, 2nd row of the 5th heat.
At the green we were 4 wide with
some of the newbies looking for
race track where it wasn't. With
a good battle I made passes up
to 2nd I thought. Running on the
bumper of the leader, I thought,
the leader was on the other
straightaway. Shucks, finished
3rd so off to the 'B' we would
go, working with a different car
we still did what we learned
with the Coach's car for setups.
On the front row outside of the
'b' I beat the #10 of Yazzie
into turn one and lead every lap
to win the 'B' main. Wow, we're
in the 'A' with this car, cool!
Bobbie will be happy her car is
working well.
Starting 14th we thought a top 5
would be awesome, so that was
our goal. At the green I shot to
the top passing some very good
cars early and making some good
ground. Around lap 8-10 the 73
car doored the 38 spl car
spinning him right in front of
me, @#$%^&Sh**T! Hitting him in
the door I mashed the gas trying
to straighten him out to no
avail, they put the 38 to the
rear and put me and the 73 back
to our spots. Right at the
restart I passed his a**,
continuing to move forward. At
the next yellow I realized my
left front tire was flat from
the contact with the 38 I guess.
With multiple cautions it got
real exciting cause the left
front frame was hitting the
ground going slow around the
rubbered up track with the flat.
So.....I got real defensive and
never lost a spot for 20 or so
laps, but wasn't real racy
either, as I worried the tire
would come off the rim. But it
didn't and I finished 6th,
almost top 5, and with Bobbie
Jean's hot rod!
There was a wreck at the finish
line, with the leader blowing up
a rear gear coming to the line,
the 98 running second tried to
miss him and got squeezed into
the wall, and 3rd place got
around to finish 2nd,pretty
exciting stuff!
With all that we began readying
for the Sunday show,with great
expectation.
Sunday-I went the pill draw
feeling pretty cocky and
predicted drawing my car #,can
you believe it,I drew #5,pole of
heat #5,cool,so lets go see how
bad we can mess this deal up,so
at the green I slid up into 2nd
place pretty happy with
myself,but had 0,no,forward
bite,#$%^&*boy can I mess things
up on setup,finishing 5th I just
knew we would not make the 'A'
main tonite,so we got after a 'B'setup
going for all grip we got
get,starting 10th I had to
finish 4th to make the
transfer,man did I have a good
hotrod!To the front we were
headed,finally making it to
third I was realing in the two
top cars at the checkered
flag,cool..........
For the 'A'(I can't believe how
good the car was in the 'B'),we
decided to do some tire prep and
leave everything else alone,so
at the start I was 20th,working
up to 14th or so on this one
lane rubbered up track the 777
car pushed me over the edge of
turn 3 causing me to spin, they
sent me to the back so now were
24th or so,trying to pass to
make some ground,I got turned
around while working the f-1
car,they gave me my spot
back, but I decided it was time
to call it a day!Car was not
torn up too bad,and no reason to
give the morons in the WW tour
the chance to do more damage,we
were scored 17th at the end.
Thanks to the Doug Gabbard crew
for all their efforts during my
winter racing stay,to Brett &
Brian, and my Sis See yall at Las
Cruces in 10 days!!!!!!!!!!!
Canyon Raceway -- February
14, 2009
-- by Butch Reid
Final race of
the 09' winter challenge here in
sunny Arizona is now in the
books. The next week's 2 day
wild west tour will be my last
weekend racing over here this
winter.
After some
more design work on Bobbie
Jean's black car I loaded it up
and headed west friday so as to
get to the track for some
maintenance on the Coach's car
before bedtime.
Sat. was a
busy day, as I had found a
chassis issue friday that
required welding(thanks Pete @
Flexi-Flyer). I loaded up some
steel to bring home for Coach,
and a much needed trip to the
car wash for the Coach's
modified, all before 10 am when
the pits opened.
Finally at
the track we got busy preparing
both cars for some hot laps. The
coach's car was fast as always.
The black car had some fuel
pressure issues, although it did
seem to handle well besides
that. So being short on time we
focused on the car we had been
racing and off to the pill draw
I went, 39 this time, oh well,
at least they seem to be getting
smaller.
Lined up
6th in heat three we got off to
a good start battling with the
97rl and 2 car for the lead, we
managed to pull off a second
place finish chasing Lewerke to
the stripe at the checkered
flag.
When we
don't have to run the 'B' it's a
major success, so off the the
ever important redraw. For the
'A' feature the track looked to
be a one laner around the top
during the 'B' main so where you
start in the 'A' would be very
important. They let the top 4
from the three heats in on the
redraw so 12 would draw. We drew
#9. Could've been better huh?
With that
done we made some main event
setup changes that I (me), have
been wanting to try for dry
slick tracks, plus Brian and
Brett siping and grinding tires
right up till main event time.
For some
reason the promoter decided to
water the track while we're
sitting in staging. History has
proved that every time they
water, the track takes rubber
around the top, so what are they
thinking?????
After the
watering we got to pack, and
pack, and pack, and then slop
lap, I mean hot lap, as the
track started to tighten up I
heard some clanking going on
under the car. Off to the pits I
went hoping the crew could fix
what ever the issue was before
they went green. If I had known
what the problem was as I was
sitting in the car and the crew
thrashed, I would have jumped
into the black car and tagged
the main. But I didn't and they
went green without me!!@#$%^*
darnit!!!
The
changes I made the call on
indexed the birdcage too much to
the point the shock got bent and
broke, which got into the lower
trailing arm and broke it! Boy
when I screw up I do it good, so
we watched the race from the
pits. The #7 car lead every lap
from the front row and won the
race. Congrats to Marlyn Seidler
and to the 97rl of Rich Lewerke
for winning the points title!
After some
soul searching the crew all
discussed our options for next
week, with two trailers over
there (and two cars). I have to
make another trip to bring
everything home so we're racing
next weekend, But which car? As
much as I want to work with my
primary car, I need to make more
laps on this black car
eventually to work out the bugs,
so we loaded the Coach's car and
home I headed!
Thanks
again to my crew: Brian, Brett,
and Andy when he's available, my
sis,and Coach's Chassis for all
their help, and to Wyoming
Service center for their support
of the 377 we have been running
over here this winter, thanks
Alan!
We had a
very competitive car over here
and we learned a lot about our
setups. With the disappointments
of today I guess the testing was
still a success, even though I
sure wanted to win one of these
races! The Coach's car needs
some tlc before its next battle,
so stay tuned to what's next!
See ya at
the track!!!!!!!!
Canyon Raceway -- February
7-8 -- by Butch Reid
Making the trip to go racing
always seems short going, but
long coming home. After a few
weekends the 500 mile one way
trip does get long either way.
Friday night was a practice
night but we spent those hours
doing maintenance to prepare for
Sat. racing, oil change etc.
After losing the race the
previous weekend to the 97rl car
we realized with the new rule
change, that the car that won
had extensive tire siping done
to all four tires, so.......I
borrowed a siping iron from
Coach and we siped....and siped....and
ground tires to the point Brett
said he would rather do a 9"
gear change than sipe tires!
Anyway, Sat. pill draw was
#47, so starting 6th in heat one
we thought we were so good last
week that we should do some
experimenting. At the green I
new I sucked--waaay tight--so
finishing 6th I had to run the
'B'. So we went back to last
weeks setup cause only 4 cars
would transfer to the 'A', and I
was starting 6th.
At the green I drove in low
at turn one and slid job several
cars coming out in 4th on the
backchute, slicing and dicing
the race was on. Up to the front
3 wide at times we had a heck of
a race going on. Coming around
for the checkered the 59 car got
loose right in front of me. I
slid into him straightening him
out and gassing it up to the
flag stand to finish
3rd.....whew!
Well with that finish I would
start the 'A' in the last row
19th on the grid. So we got
after the 'A' setup knowing we
could only go forward. The track
normally is fast around the top,
but having run the 'B', I knew
the bottom was coming in so I
made the plan to run low and
pick 'em off as they fought for
the top.
After many restarts we
finally got going racing. Sure
enough the bottom was the
ticket. It didn't take long for
everyone (almost) else to get
down there also. With the
scorers giving away spots for me
every time there was a restart I
raced to finish 6th at the end!
I said a top 5 would be awesome,
so almost awesome huh?!
Thanks to Brett & Brian,
Coach's Chassis and my Sis. Up
to 4th in points for this deal
that first week wreck really
hurt, see ya at the track!
Canyon Raceway -- January 31,
2009 -- by Butch Reid
As I write this story and
recap I say we are testing stuff
for the bigger shows (more
money), and we are, but the
competition here at Canyon is as
tough as it gets anywhere.
After the long drive and week
long of gathering parts and
supplies for this weekend, I
arrived at the track (where my
car and trailer are camped out),
and began the prep for the
Saturday only show.
The crew showed up after work
and we made a long night of it
getting 'er done for the next
day's racing. On Sat we had very
little to ready on the car so
lots of B'S'n went on between
drivers and crews (smack talk
too). So off to the pill draw I
went thinking we been on a roll
lately. Pill 51 is what we got,
which put us last in the last
heat,! @#$%^& shucks! Oh well,
I
guess we'll see if all this
testing is paying off.
So, with all that what could
be worse, all the heavy hitters
in my heat too? Of course! At
the green we moved high and
began passing right at turn one.
By Madrid, by Seidler, by
Logston, by Ward, to second
pushing on the #12 who was
leading. With the redraw of the
top finishers out of the heats I
didn't lean TOO hard, so second
was good after starting 9th.
At the redraw you could start
front row, or all the way back
to row 6. Well a #2 pill gets
you front row outside! YEEHAW!
At the green I held off the
pole sitter through turn two and
was in the lead. With only lap
cars to deal with I focused on
being smooth on this dry slick
wide black track and no
mistakes. With approx.20+ laps
of green with no yellows I had
checked out on the field by 1/2
lap or so. At the restart I
realized I had the 97rl car on
my tail, so the battle was on,
side by side, top and bottom we
battled with me holding on to a
slim lead every lap, until a
lapper not holding a very smooth
line caused me to lift not to
hit him or the 97 and giving up
on the battle for the win,
darnit. I really feel like I let
that one get away. Sure Rich
Lewerke is a pro and has won
everything in IMCA, but nobody
beats me in lap traffic! But he
did, so congrats to the 97rl!
Thanks to my tireless crew
who makes this deal happen over
there in Phoenix: Coach's
Chassis for their support, and
my family, who always encourages
me! Doug Gabbard and crew at
Canyon Raceway and my buddy Andy
Critzer who tries to prep a
smooth & dry track for me.
Next week will be more hectic
with a Friday night practice and
two days of racing. So we'll see
ya at the track!
Should have some pic's too
for ya'll!
Canyon Raceway -- January
24, 2009 -- by Butch Reid
After a few practice laps
on Friday nite my new found
setup for dry slick was
found to be very good on
heavy as well.
Saturday we unloaded to a
field of 40 cars from all
over the country. After much
visiting with old friends we
did the pill draw and drew a
#7,awesome. That put us
front row of heat 4 of 4
heats. At the start I lost a
few spots until I worked my
way to the top and hammered
back to finish 2nd for the
heat. The top three would
redraw from each heat for A
main starting spots, but
being in the last heat and
stopped in the infield for
tech, I missed the redraw,
so they put me 11th in the
grid. Once again the top was
the way around the track so
starting on the inside I
lost a few spots before I
slid to the top and started
my hunt to the front,
passing up to 10th. I was
working on the 59 car pretty
hard when the 70 car behind
me hooked my quarter panel
and turned me straight into
the front stretch wall.
Spinning around backward
airborne I ended up off the
end of turn one. With a left
rear flat I limped to the
pits, changed the tire, and
reentered the track a few
laps down. I stayed out 7 or
8 laps till I pulled in
calling it a night with the
car not handling well after
the wreck. Looking for
someone to have a come to
Jesus talk with, we replaced
a front bumper and loaded up
to ready for Sunday's race,
scored 18th for the A main.
Sunday- A new day after a
bad day looked very
promising, we thought our
hotrod was pretty good, just
needed more forward bite, so
we went to work on that (we
thought). The Sunday pill
wasn't quite as good as Sat.
I drew #38, which put me 6th
in the 2nd heat of 4. On the
outside finally I was
confident I would go
forward, but at the start
the 38 got crossed up and
doing some crash avoidance I
ended up on the wrong
straightaway for awhile.
Back up on the wheel I
caught the back of the pack
as a caution came out. On
the gas I passed up to
finish 3rd making the pill
draw cut for the A main. At
the pill draw I drew #4,
awesome starting spot!
At the green I gassed it
up to fall in line behind
the 97 car in 2nd place.
Holding on because we setup
loose for the rubbered up
track, I lost a few spots
before the track tightened
up enough for my car off
turn two. As the race went
green to lap 25 before a
caution my car was awesome,
with the 377 running very
strong we were a one lane
freight train on each others
bumper. At the checkered we
finished 5th, top 5 to the
infield for tech, the 81 car
was dq'd for roller
cam/weight location penalty,
so we moved up to 4th in the
money! A great rebound after
the Sat. wreck fest.
With a list of stuff to
bring back this next weekend
for repairs I guess we'll be
back next weekend for some
more of it!
See ya at the
track!!!!!!!!!

Schedule Update, Butch Jr. and
More -- by Butch Reid
I'm heading for Canyon RACEWAY
in Phoenix for their Winter
series beginning this Sat & Sun.
Butch Jr. news -- He's out of
the hospital and resting at
home-hoping to return to racing
real soon!
Bobbie Jean news -- First
semester at UNM is behind her
(survived) and she's hard at it
already this semester-no racing
for her for now ... school,
school, school!
New pit cart has been installed
in the trailer, tools loaded,
and parts being organized daily.
Coach's Modified has a new power
plant--a 377 c.I. to start the
winter racing with. Hopefully it
will be as reliable as the 355
spare we'll be carrying with us
that's been ol' reliable. We're
expecting to test some setup
stuff during this series to
prepare for the big show at Las
Cruces coming up in March, so
it's hero or zero when testing
sometimes!
See ya at the track!
USA Speedway 11-28, 29, & 30--by Butch Reid
Since my crew chief is
now a college student
I've had to deal with
not having her to help
when out of town, so
Wed. she flew out to
Phoenix to share in the
holiday festivities, and
get ready for some
racing.
So with turkey day
behind us we prepped for
the trip south to
Tucson. Friday we headed
there with a couple
stops along the way to
see friends in Casa
Grande,so we
decided to make our gear
change while not in a
dirt pit area. Thanks
Robert Dodge for your
help!
With our Ariz. crew
having to work on
Friday, they would make
the trip later in the
day.
Bobbie and I unloaded to
a full pit area with
lots of cars ready to
hot lap. Out on the
track to pack I realized
it was gonna take some
time to roll this wet
track in, so I pulled
back into the pits and
stuck Bobbie in the car
to go make laps. She was
all smiles!
After a couple sessions
out on the heavy track
we were dialed in so we
loaded up ready for Sat.
racing.
Sat. pill was not good,
56 mods on hand and we
drew 38? Could've been
worse I guess.
Anyway, the track was
still very wet,from rain
earlier in the week I
heard, so as much as
everyone wanted a dryer
track, moisture kept
coming up. As the heats
got started the track
started to come apart, I
mean rough race track,
holes you could lose a
car in! So I sucked all
day cause I won't race
on rough race tracks, it
tears up equipment and
it's hard on an ol guy!
I ran in the back of
both heats not pushing
it at all. In the C main
which transferred 6 I
ran 8th still not
wanting to tear my
equipment up, so we
loaded up hoping for
some track grading to
help things far Sunday.
Boy they cut the heck
out of the track for
todays racing, looking
good for some dry slick
too.
After the packing/hot
lap session I was
excited that we now have
some race track, so to
work we went. In the
last chance we had to
run 9th to transfer to
the C main, we had a
good run to finish 5th,
car was pretty good just
needed more shock
control cause the track
was still rough in turn
1 &2,for the C we needed
to finish top 16 to
transfer to the B main,
at the green I knew we
were good, but I was
racing the low groove
which was where the
holes were in 1&2.
Somewhere about lap 10 I
was running 9th when the
RR spring exited the
car, the birdcage mount
broke when I hit one of
those holes, rotated and
spit the spring out,
!@#$%^&* darnit! What do
you do? Later as we
watched the other Mains
everyone was breaking
parts to the tune of
only 13 cars finishing
the A out 24 that
started. Rough weekend
at USA speedway for us
all, just wish it
could've waited a couple
more races to break on
my car!
Thanks to Bobbie Jean,
Brett & Brian, and
Deserae for all your
hard work this week. We
ran into some more ol
friends this week also.
Since I grew up in
Tucson it's like
homecoming when were
here, and our new dry
slick setup was awesome,
can't wait to try it out
at Canyon in Feb.09.
Enjoy the pictures
Bobbie took of USA's
track, you can see how
rough it is.
Canyon Raceway Desert
Classic -- by Butch
Reid
At the last minute I
decided there is a race
and I need to be there!
So with a few phone
calls I had my Arizona
crew put together and
was in route on a
Thursday morning so as
to make practice night.
Practice went well
but those night race
tracks before the big
show always seem to
change for race day.
Friday's racing started
out with a decent pill.
At the green of the heat
I knew we were too
tight, had a terrible
throttle push on a
hammer down track, so we
would be running a last
chance race to continue
on because I went
backwards in the heat.
In the 1st of two B
mains we got the car
turning good and made a
decent charge forward to
start 24th in the A
qualifier. The top 8
would lock into the A,
second 8 to the B, third
8 to the C, so with that
I made a good charge to
finish 15th in the A on
Friday, which locked me
into the b for Saturday.
We were darn good in
the b, ran the middle of
the track while others
were on the top, to pass
up to 5th at the finish,
that started us 13th so
at the green I was
pinned on the bottom of
the track for a lap or
two as the top was the
preferred line. Finally
on the top I worked my
way up to 10th when on a
restart the #8 car drove
in too hard and took out
my left rear, this was
about lap 20 of a 30
lapper so we were done, darnit!
These big shows are a
lot of fun to go to. I
meet friends I've made
over the years at
different race tracks
and we trade stories
since we last met. I get
to do testing for the
Coach's modified so we
can improve on our
program at home and
hopefully learn from
these touring pro's
we're racing with, and
what's the ol saying, a
bad day racing is better
than any other day!
Thanks to my Arizona
crew who worked
tirelessly: Brett &
Brian, Pete from
Flexi-Flyer who let me
hang out there all week
and dyno shocks and
stuff, and to my sis
Shelly who always has a
bed for her travelling
brother.
I'll be staying here
all week and going to
Tucson next week
Las
Cruces and Fall Nationals --by
Butch Reid
Friday we unloaded with
much enthusiasm for this
biggest of the big mod
shows in the southwest!
Drawing a good pill on
Friday we ran some hot
laps in the slop and
didn't learn anything,
so we lined up for our
heat with our HH setup
for tacky tracks. At the
green I knew we were too
tight but not bad
otherwise. We raced to a
5th place finish so that
put me in a C main for
the lack of passing
points! We made some
changes to free us up
and started 3rd row of
the C. We took the green
and went right to the
front taking the lead
after a lap. At about
lap 13 or so we were
taking the white flag
when local car 58 came
down the track in front
of me as I was lapping
him. After locking up
the brakes to miss him I
blew a rear brake line.
Trying to continue, I
lost one spot in turn
one and another in turn
4, finishing 3rd darnit.
We had that race won! In
the pits we hurriedly
changed the brake line
and tried to bleed the
system to hurry out for
the B main. At the green
I knew we hadn't got it
bled cause she wouldn't
stop?! So we raced
around in the back not
going anywhere for the B
main, done for the
night.
Saturday, we worked on
brakes and setup stuff,
drawing another good
pill we got some dry
slick track this time.
Finishing 4th we locked
in to the B this time
not having to run the C
main. Starting 12th we
raced hard for 7 or 8
laps till the 3x car
spun in front of me.
Clipping his bumper with
my left front I limped
to the wall only to be
towed off the track
broken!
Replacing EVERY bolt on
part on the left front
of the car, we readied
for Sunday's last chance
races.
Wow, another good pill
started us in the front
of last chance race #1
of 3. We were pretty
good for this race with
decent forward bite, but
the track was rough and
I missed that in our
shock setup, so I
finished 4th when only 8
transferred to the C
main. Naking some hail
mary setup changes
(you know,nothing to
lose), we couldn't touch
the track, no forward
bite or side bite, so we
went backwards racing
for 18th? 14 cars
transferred to the B
main, we were done!
Thanks to Bobbie Jean
who worked tirelessly
all weekend, Mike
Andrews for all his HARD
work (before this
weekend, and after),
Butch Jr for his
sponsoring me the entry
fee, the fuel fool from
Sunoco for the barrel of
methanol, and Coach's
Chassis for their
support of our racing!
Next race for us will be
the Desert Classic at
Canyon raceway in
Phoenix coming up in two
weeks. I plan to go
early and do some
testing for those dry
tracks we never see here
at home. (yet)
Thanks to all those fans
and supporters of mine
and Bobbie Jean, see ya
at the track!
Hollywood Hills Speedway Recap
World of Outlaws (Saturday,
10/12/08) -- by Butch
Reid
I have a lot of people
to thank for helping out
this weekend so I'll
start with Sam Hodges of
Cardinal Motor Speedway
in Eunice, N.M. He, with
the help of Brian Prouty
of Carlsbad who actually
hauled it, brought their
track packer up to help
prep our track this
weekend. Hopefully,
since everyone saw the
awesome job it did, the
tribe will want to own
one of their own! My
crew, who worked
tirelessly with the
changes we made all race
day trying to keep up
with the track; Tom &
Ruth Brooks of Coach's
Chassis, Bobbie Jean,
Mike Andrews, 'chef'
James Sundsmo, Mike
Walker, Brad Winters &
Steven Francis jr.,
thank you all.
A big pat on the back to
the Tom Ball/Robert Shay
crew for busting their
butt all weekend trying
to get the show in.
Hopefully everyone can
see your efforts!
For the heat race, with
a #26 pill draw, I
started 2nd row outside
of heat one. With the
decision to cut the
track and rewater, all
we did was pack, then
heat two packed. Finally
heat 3 raced and back to
heat 4 and then we lined
up again. At the start I
jumped behind the 2m car
running from the pole to
the bottom, the 3 car
and 16 went around us
both on the outside so
to the top I went making
the pass on the 2m. On a
restart I passed the 3
to finish 2nd in the
heat.
For the main we had to
redraw for starting
position, we drew 67? So
I lined up 11th for the
A main, out of the 12
who qualified from the
heats.
Working the VERY bottom,
I moved up a few spots
to work on the 131 car
for most of the race,
battling for 5th spot.
Finally I got a good run
off turn 4 to pull
under/beside him into
turn 1 when he came down
on me entering the
corner. The contact
pancaked my right front
wheel and seemed to lock
us together, both
sliding high into turn
one by the wall. Then a
fire developed under the
hood so I proceeded to
climb out to the delight
of everyone and
investigate, pulling the
hood. I guess the wheel
contact blew a power
steering hose which
sprayed all over the
headers causing the
fire. So on the hook we
went to the pits. This
is the luck we tend to
have every time we race
with the 131 car,
hopefully his "i'm
sorry, didn't see you"
will be the end of that
bad luck for future
races! He did come in a
lap later broken,so
maybe Karma?
Anyway congrats to Jimmy
Ray on the win!
I don't think I could
have got to him in the
remaining 7 laps when
the red flag came out
for my fire, being a one
laner, but I sure would
liked to have tried.
Bobbie Jean made her
Modified (dirt) debut
today and she did great.
I'll let her tell you in
her own words with her
recap! But we're sure
proud.
Butch Jr. raced with us
also and we all had a
good time!
This has been a awesome
season for me and
sometimes I want to
pinch myself to see if
it's all real. Thanks
again to all our fans
and supporters!
If I decide to do any
Winter racing I'll post
it soon.
Hollywood Hills Speedway Recap
World of Outlaws (Saturday,
10/12/08) -- by Bobbie
Jean Reid
Well!! This weekend was
the most fun I've had in
my entire life! As I'm
sure it's mentioned in
my dad's recap as well-
I experienced my very
first dirt modified
race! Thanks to my
wonderful Daddy, I raced
the black car which I'm
sure you've all seen
pictures of as well as
heard of! Obviously, I
knew I was jumping right
onto a learning curve,
but I took the
challenge. And as
challenging as it was, I
wouldn't take any of it
back! I started scratch
in the first heat race
and learned quite a few
thing (mainly that the
car is SUPPOSED to be
sideways). This car is
definitely different
from Mark's street stock
that I drove up in
Aztec! As my awesome
crew including- Crew
Chief Mike Andrews, Bad
Brad, Mike Walker, Kenny
Todd, Coach and Ruth
Brooks, Steven Francis
and of course my
fabulous Daddy- helped
me out, I lined up ready
to go. Well, I'm sure
you'll read about most
of it in my dad's recap
but the track conditions
changed drastically and
frequently since the
World of Outlaw Sprint
cars were present. After
some yellow flag laps
packing, lined up side
by side, they gave us a
yellow checkered flag
and called the next heat
onto the track. Once the
track figured out just
what they wanted to do,
I headed back out and
lined up right behind
Steven Bertetto. I fell
in right behind everyone
and tried to learn the
line. I didn't spin
out!!!! Yay!!! (that was
my goal). That was my
very first dirt race
with my daddy. And,
although I didn't get to
actually see him cause
he's so dern fast... I
look forward to the next
time. My dad and brother
gave me much advice that
helped me a lot. Thanks
guys :)
I lined up for the
b-main because only the
top three cars
transferred to the
A-main from the heat
races. I felt really
confident out on the
track and I was having a
blast! I got up to sixth
(transfer spot to the
A-main) and was lovin'
every minute of it!
There were some close
calls for contact with a
few "veterans" but the
car stayed untouched for
the most part. Still
tryin' to get the hang
of everything, I spun
going into turn three
and turned into the
infield JUST in front of
the other cars.
The yellow flag flew and
I lined up in the back.
After a few more
incidences like that, I
finally kept the car
under me. I learned a
lot but most of all... I
had sooo much fun. It
was a blast and I really
look forward to the next
time.
I'd like to thank
everybody for coming out
and I hope all had as
great of a time as I
did. Thanks again to the
crew, I love and
appreciate you all. Most
of all- thanks to my
daddy for giving me the
opportunity of a
lifetime. :) hope to see
ya'll soon!
Sandia Motor Speedway Recap
Hot Pepper 40 (Saturday,
10/04/08) -- by Butch
Reid
The annual Hot Pepper 40
is in the books!
And we didn't win,
darnit, but some 17 mods
showed up to try and
take the trophy.
After much work on these
two pavement cars since
we last raced Sandia, we
made great improvements
on the Harris but
couldn't find a setup
for the 63bj car today.
After me having to work
at 11,000 feet Friday,
and Bobbie having school
till 5;30, we made a
last minute attempt to
make the Friday
practice. The #5 had
serious issues so we
concentrated on the 63
car. First laps were not
good as Bobbie spun out
in her own oil. Dad must
be the culprit 'cause
the right side valve
cover was pouring oil on
the right rear tire.
After some time
repairing that, the next
session went much better
with Bobbie logging 15
laps or so at speed.
Then with the track
calling an end to
practice we went to work
on the Harris, draining
the fuel cell of
contaminated methanol,
flushing the system, and
refilling with clean go
juice. The KSE tandem
fuel & power steering
had been pushing ps
fluid into the fuel
system. Must be a bad
seal or O-ring???????
Anyway, the other issue
was/or has been a
serious vibration. Well
that ended up being the
driveline, not the water
pump as I had been
advised by others. With
those items changed and
ready, we called it a
night and returned Sat.
am to continue with more
maintenance for the sat
races.
Bobbie decided it was my
turn to do pill draws.
Mistake! I drew 34 for
me and 36 for her, which
was last for each of us
in our heat races. Her
turn next time!!!!!!!
Bobbie ran her heat and
spent most of it getting
adjusted to the pavement
after running some dirt.
Finishing 6th, I
believe, my heat wasn't
a lot different as
everyone was fast and I
had a tight car, But I
managed to pass a couple
cars to finish 4th.
For the 40 lap main, I
lined up 4th row inside
behind the 00 car. At
the start I followed him
through traffic to take
over 2nd spot. That
didn't last long as we
started the main with a
new stickier left rear.
It grew 2 inches during
the race to give me a
VERY tight car. After
pushing up off the
corner for several laps
and losing a couple
spots, I changed my line
by moving up the track
to run a higher line.
That seemed to work as I
ran 4th for a long time
til we had a yellow.
After the restart, I ran
side by side with the #8
car for 10 + laps. He
finally got me and I
finished 5th!
Congrats to Frank Dutton
on the win tonight!
Bobbie seemed to fight a
loose car the whole race
coming to the checkered
in 10th.
As frustrated as we get
when we miss the setup
we still try and have
fun. Heck last week I
raced with my son and
this week I got to race
with my daughter! Life
couldn't be any better
than that!
Thanks to Wyoming
Service Center for there
support this year,
Action Alignment, Action
Hose, and Coach's
Chassis, and to those
die hard fans, hooray to
you all!
The pavement cars are
for sale and we do have
some interest in them.
But starting tomorrow
they are being
winterized. We're done
with that deal for at
least this season!
Next week=World of
Outlaw weekend. See ya
at the Hills!
Hollywood Hills Speedway
Recap Dashes and Mains
(Saturday, 09/27/08) --
by Butch Reid
A big, big thank you
goes out to Richard &
Anna Johnson for making
this first annual race a
huge success and a lot
of fun. We all raced
hard and to win, but I
sure saw a lot of smiles
all weekend regardless
of how they finished!
The Coach's Chassis
modified was on rails
tonight, with Tom & Ruth
Brooks, Bobbie Jean,
Kenny Todd, Mike Walker,
MAD Graphic
designer/installer Mike
Andrews, and 'chef'
extraordonare James
Sundsmo all bringing it
together tonight we
clean swept 'em one more
time!!!!!!!! YAHOO!
Bring out the broom? Why
not!
It all started with a
football toss to the
track officials who each
had a pill (eight of
them, and eight
drivers), and we ended
up with #2, so that put
us front row outside of
the dash. Getting a good
start we led every lap
to win the dash for
cash/line up race
(thanks to those who
sponsored this race)
which paid $125.00.
So that put us on the
pole for the main, wow,
no pressure here????!
So after watching 2 last
chance races and a B
main the lineup was set.
The crew made some last
minute setup changes for
the quick drying track
hoping we weren't
shooting ourselves in
the foot, since we race
in mud all year.
At the green I knew we
were good. I jumped out
to the lead being
somewhat cautious in my
corner entry but
blasting down the
straits, running the
bottom of the track I
knew I had a hornets
nest on my tail so I had
to be smooth and make no
mistakes. After multiple
cautions we finally got
down to around lap 30
when approaching several
lap cars running the
bottom I had to make a
decision (in a hurry by
the way) to either hug
the bottom and hope for
a hole, or take a chance
on the high side (which
looked good all night,
but I hadn't tried it),
so I shot high, the 2m
pulled under me off turn
4. I went up on the
cushion in one and
hammered down all the
way around the track to
finally clear the lapped
cars coming down the
back stretch to resume
the lead I had the whole
race. Many people think
the 82 helped me win
this race by blocking
the bottom of the track
and holding up the cars
chasing me. Sorry, if he
hadn't been there, I
would have stayed on the
bottom where I had been
running and the result
would have been the
same, just not as
exciting. So thanks but
no thanks to the 82! I
didn't need the help,
but no one beats me in
lapped traffic anyway,
so WE
WON!!!!!!!!!!!!!And that
race paid a smooth
$1,000.
Thanks to the HH crew on
putting this show on,
Tom Ball, Robert Shay,
Paul Wilson, and many
others who make it all
happen, thank you all.
My son butch jr came to
race with us this
weekend and brought a
lot of his friends who
race in Eunice at
Cardinal speedway with
him. I want to thank all
those guys (who didn't
all have a great race)
for coming and playing

Speedway Recap Heats and
Mains (Friday,
09/26/08) -- by Butch
Reid
The first annual Fall
Mod Classic is in the
works-35 mods on hand
tonight running 5 heats,
2 last chance races, and
an A main.
12 cars per passing
points and finishing
order locked into the
front of the A feature
tonight, while the
remaining cars had to
battle it out with 6
transferring out of each
last chance race to make
a 24 car field in the A,
and the top 8 finishers
in the A would lock into
the front of the A for
Sat. night and also be
in the trophy dash sat.
to determine the
starting grid for those
8.
I drew another good
pill,#4, can you believe
it? Oh wait, there's
passing points. Anyway
starting on the pole of
heat one we led every
lap of a very wet and
slimy track to win,
hooray! Hoping that was
enough to take us
straight to the A, (it
did) we lined up 8th out
of the 24. With multiple
cautions, we slowly
worked our way up to the
front to finish 3rd at
the checkered. 1st was
the 51 car, the 2m was
2nd, us 3rd, 25 4th, 21
5th. It seems like
tonight was good for
most, seeing smiles
everywhere, but a lot of
tension among the track
personnel. Calm down
folks, his is supposed
to be fun!
Tommorrow will be
interesting as the dash
will be VERY
important,and the last
chance races will be do
or die,should be fun.
Aztec Speedway Recap
(Friday, 09/19/08) -- by
Butch Reid
Great people running this
race track. The locals
should thank their lucky
stars they have such a great
place to race managed by
great people doing a great
job!
Being new to this IMCA
track and no point average,
we lined up in 4th in the
3rd heat with 5 cars
starting. After much packing
(by everyone but the sprint
cars) we started the heats
with about 1 & 1/2 grooves,
Taking the green, I moved
under the leader off turn
two on the first lap as he
pushed up off two. Going
down the back stretch, he
tried moving me down so
entering turn three we slid
together through the corner
side by side until my rr
spring came out #$%^& darn
it!
I slowed and pulled into
the pits to evaluate. No
shock on the rr, no spring,
and a broken shock mount.
Must have broken the bolts
holding the mount cause
there was no impact (more
new car blues). So crew
Bobbie Jean & Mike Andrews
proceeded to repair and
replace to get ready for the
main.
With 20 mods on hand, we
lined up last in the main. I
took a lap to see what I had
and proceeded to move
forward after I knew I liked
it! Racing hard with a lot
of three wide racing, we
raced up to 5th. With 3 to
go, there was a caution.
These guys do a Delaware
restart where the leader
takes the point and second
picks high or low and
everyone staggers all the
way back. The bottom was
where I made all my passes
but on this start I was put
to the outside. I raced hard
with these guys but still
lost 3 spots before I could
get back to the bottom,
shucks!
Finishing 8th with a
undamaged car can't be all
bad after starting
20th.Would have won with the
Coach's car though, I'm sure
of it.
Other members of our crew on
hand this weekend were Andy
Andrews and Curtis
Berry taking those
mystery photos.
Saturday 09/20/08 Recap
After a quick
night's sleep and many
quarters at the car wash we
enjoyed some Aztec cuisine
(sorry James) and proceeded
to work on tonight's setup
and Bobbie Jeans ride
(provided by Mark Seifried
of Action Hose) for the
street stocks.
Mark made some new
friends on Fridays race with
some paint swapping and one
fingered salutes, so we had
a few items to deal with
(not many) on the stock car.
After pulling tires and
looking the mod over, we had
a lot of NEW car issues to
deal with. We finished with
the left rear shock unhooked
at the top (laying against
the fuel cell), the drive
line yoke bottoming out into
the trans (causing sparks)
no wonder we were pulling 3
ft wheelies off the
corners,so we spent all day
checking/tightening/adjusting
so as to be better for
Saturday races.
Now with a point
average we started 4th
again, but in the first heat
race of the night. What a
slop pit. Taking the green
we pulled up and raced with
the 25 of Bo Martinez for
the top spot settling for
2nd on this one-laner slimy
track as the 25 won the
heat. For the main we made
some significant changes to
this black car as the track
was actually drying out and
going black. I guess I'll
never learn my lesson.
starting 8th I wrestled with
a tight car on this tacky
around the bottom fast one
lane race track, @#%$$&*
(shucks again). Anyway,we
came home 11th with about a
10th place car (couldn't
quite pass the 10th place
car, but almost).
I sure wish I had my
Coach's Chassis mod here
this weekend. Oh well, we
did get some laps on this
car finally. The motor is
very strong which drove us
toward the front on Friday.
After our main was
over, we readied for
Bobbie's stock car main
event. As she did run the
heat and was settling in
very well to the dirt car by
the end of the heat. The
streets took to the track
and where coming around two
by two to take the green,
when the skies opened up and
flooded the track, sh****t!
As luck would have it, they
lined up to try and repack
when the rains came once
more. Bobbie and Mark
conferred and decided to
call it a night as everyone
knew it would be a while
before it could be race
ready. Everyone was
disappointed but there will
be others for Bobbie Jean.
So we hung around
and bs'd for hours until
finally the stocks got their
main in, and then the wing
sprints took to the track.
WOW is all I can say about
the 45x of Johnny Herrera!
One of the most entertaining
sprint races I've seen,
congrats to the 45x on the
sweep and collecting the
bounty.
Thanks to all our
fans and sponsors who
support our racing!
Next week: HH 2 day
mod special-see ya
there!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hollywood
Hills Speedway 09/13/08 Recap --
by Butch Reid
Wow, last points race of the
year in the Late Models & Mods-the
team knew it was gonna be a
tough and hard fought night (and
so did the driver).
Not drawing the best of pills
for the late model heat I lined
up 2nd row outside in the first
L.M. heat, (15 late models
checked in tonight). Racing hard
from the git go, we battled hard
in the wet one-laner for a few
laps before I was able to pass
the 38 down low and the 69 as
well to take the lead and go on
to win the heat! YEAH!
As pill draws go we have done
well in the modifieds all year,
but not tonight. 29 mods checked
in with 4 heats and we were
lined up last in heat two. From
the start, I new it was gonna be
a battle. Sherm Barnett in the
82 checked out from the pole
and, I proceeded to pass cars
who were fighting handling
issues, which made things
interesting. At the white flag I
made it to 2nd but couldn't
catch the 82 car.
For the late model main, we
decided on no changes as the
track usually taks up and stays
that way/or moisture comes back
up. Well, it went dry in the
corners, making for a loose race
car with the tacky setup.
Starting 10th in the main, I
adjusted every thing in the
topless cockpit that I could to
tighten the car up on entry
after a few laps were run. Then
the 59 of Bowers was involved in
a bad crash causing a red flag
as he rolled over but climbed
out ok. At this point in the
race, I was up to 3rd. It was at
lap 11 that the track cut our
race to 20 instead of the posted
25 lapper? On the restart, I
worked the 96 car pretty hard
until I moved into 2nd. Now on
the 69 I got under him a couple
times but rather than drive
through him, as he was sideways
off the corners, I came home in
2nd and a damage free race car!
Not bad with the loose setup we
had!
For the mod main we lined up
behind the 2m 5th row inside, at
the first green we were moving
forward pretty good as a yellow
came out after the first lap.
Now in 7th on the next restart,
I continued forward through a
few more cautions to take the
lead (after a great battle with
the 21 Hodgden car). About lap
10, through many more cautions
we led the rest of the way to
take the win and the checkered
flag! That's five in the last
six shows! YEHAW!!!!!!!!!!
So what does all this breakdown
to? Two track championships this
year at Hollywood Hills
Speedway!
This has been a very special
year for me. I realize how
hard what we as a team have
accomplished. We did it in 2003
at DCR, now again in 2008 at HH.
I'm blown away!
Thanks to Tom & Ruth Brooks of
Coach's Chassis, to Mike Andrews
of MAAD Designs, John Andrews of
JGA Engines fame, to Bobbie Jean
for her undying support of Dad,
James the chef Sundsmo for
awesome cuisine at the track,
crew members Steven Francis jr
(peanut butter cookies from
Shelby & Harley & Mom), Mike
Walker, Kenny Todd, Bad Brad
Winters, and Curtis Berry for
catching some surprise moments
on camera!
A super job by the Tom
Ball/Robert Shay crew (and
Paul). Keep up the good work and
we'll keep bringing on the
shows!
Thanks to Barry Conant/RGSLM
president on his work and
patience with all of us,and to
Mike who helps Barry and does
the group's web site.
Thanks to Richard/Anna Johnson
for all their hard work keeping
the modified division the most
popular division at the track,
and to Mark McClarren and Lisa
for their hard work keeping
track of points.
All in all a good year for both
divisions, and a great year for
the Coach's Chassis/Reid Racing
teams.
Stayed tuned as we're headed to
Aztec next weekend for two days
of it, and two more mod weekends
coming up as well. I will be
doing a winter racing schedule
soon so we'll post that soon.
A special thank you to my fans
who showed up tonight with
cookies! They are yummy.
Sandia Motor
Speedway Recap (09/08/08) -- by
Butch Reid
There's a lot to be said about ring
rust, you know, haven't done it for
a while so might be a little rusty?
That's pretty much the story for the
#5 pavement car tonight.
We lined up last in mod heat one and
the car was terrible, tight in, and
the middle, and loose off *(&^%darn
it! Even with that we were all over
the cars in our heat and were 4 wide
at the checkered flag finishing 4th.
With some changes for the main
(hopefully in the right direction),
we lined up 11th in the main. At the
green we took off passing cars
headed to the front, car was good in,
free in the middle, but tight off
with a slight push (until the tires
gave up). With that said, we moved
up to 3rd trying to reel in the 6 &
7 cars who had a good battle going
on for the win. After a 2 to go
caution, we restarted 3rd. Going
into turn one, the #6 pushed up the
track, the #7 went low, the 06 went
high. I was set to follow the 7 to
the finish down low, but on the last
corner with the 06 pushing on the #6
on the out side, and me under these
two with an exit push, I had to lift
or wreck, so I figured for $200 to
win I would take a ring rust 4th
place, AND a complete car home!
All in all not a bad finish
considering only our third pavement
race all year, and we learned some
setup stuff for the Oct 4th race (if
we decide to run it).
Thanks to Action Alignment for their
help, thanks to Wyoming Service
Center for their help, and also to
the crew tonight, me, Bobbie Jean,
Mike Andrews, Steve Waldeck, and
others.
Be glad to be back on dirt next
week, last point race for the mods &
late models at the Hills!
See ya there!
One special note; anyone interested
in either of our pavement cars,
please let us know, both are for
sale!
Sandia Motor Speedway Recap
(09/08/08) -- by Bobbie Jean
Reid
Well, much like my dad, it's
been a few since I was last on
asphalt! I must admit that I got
a little bit spoiled being on
the dirt and being able to get
sideways. Back to trying to roll
through the corners and keep 'er
stickin! After a few hot lap
sessions, me and my daddy
adjusted the #5 and #63BJ as we
thought would do best. I went
out for the heat lined up on the
second row-inside, behind Race
Safro and next to Johnny Dorcas.
The green flew and I got stuck
behind Race, who got a little
squirrely in turns one and two.
That let a few cars get by while
I tried to sliver back into the
groove. One lap later, I was
back on the move when Bruce
Martin did a backwards slide job
and cut me off going into turn
one. I braked and settled behind
him for most of the race. Dorcas
and myself had a pretty close
battle. Running behind him, I
noticed he was very loose off,
as was I. We did our best to
keep the cars on the track!! I
struggled, being tight in the
middle as well but came across
the finish line in fourth.
After the heats, me, Daddy, Mike
Andrews, Robbie Smith, and Steve
Waldeck grouped up to decide
what the best touches would be
to improve our ill-handling
cars. We lined up with what we
had and I was on the outside
poll, next to Race Safro. When
the green light came on, I
booked it and took the lead with
and EXCELLENT car! I held off
Garry Richards but not for long.
He and I ALWAYS have some good,
close, clean racing! He took the
lead and I was right on his
tail. A few laps later, my car
was gaining some exit issues.
Once again, the car was pretty
loose. But I threw my dirt
experience (Thanks to Mark
Seifried!!!) in and drifted
through the turns to hold off
Charlie Daniels! As much fun as
I was having, I certainly hated
to see my Oil Pressure Light
come on!! Darn it!! I decided to
pull off the track and call it
good for the night.
We sure gave 'er hell though!
Thanks to Action Alignment and
the great crew tonight! As
mentioned once already-Both of
the Reid Racing asphalt
Modifieds are for sale. If
you're interested, click on the
"contact" link on this website
to let us know!!
My next race will be back at
Aztec Speedway in Mark
Seifried's car on September
20th! Hope to see you there!!
Aztec
Late Model Shootout Recap (Saturday
08/30/08) - by Bobbie Jean Reid
WOW!!! That's as much as I know how
to say about this weekend. Thanks to
Mark Seifried, I experienced driving
a stock car on the dirt at Aztec
Speedway!! With anxiety rushing
through me, I was getting ready to
go out to pack. Since it rained so
heavily on Friday night, the track
was simply a SLOP HOLE! I'll tell
you right now that having my first
encounter with THAT on the track
sure intimidated me! I was trying to
keep my speed up and stay as high as
I could, knowing this was a new
world for me. Well, that didn't
matter since I got stuck TWICE!!
Much appreciation sent to the
infield track officials for having
patience with me while teaching me
how to maneuver in the slime! After
cooling down in the infield, I drove
straight across the track and to the
pits to see my daddy! Man, it was
NOT easy getting off that track!
I took my dad's advice and watched
the hobbies run around the track for
their heats. I learned a lot just
spectating. With a little more
confidence, I headed to the car to
consult Mark (car owner). As he put
the final touches on the car, I
zipped up my suit and buckled up!
"here we go", I thought, "time to
have some fun!" and I sure as heck
did!! I didn't gain any positions in
my dirt debut, but I stayed on the
lead lap and gained some speed and
confidence! Man, I was ready for
more laps!
I got my chance when the A-main
lined up, me starting scratch. I
finished 7th and had a hell of a
time! I battled fairly closely with
a few cars and swapped a little bit
of paint while I was at it. :)
I'd really like to give a HUGE
thanks to Mark Seifried!! He gave me
one of the most thrilling and
enjoyable experiences of my life! I
hope to continue this "career" ha
ha! Thanks to my fabulous daddy and
Mike Andrews for you support as
well!
Aztec
Late Model Shootout Recap (Friday
08/29/08) - by Butch Reid
Well for starters the RGSLM bunch
from Albq. showed up with great
support for this WDRA show: the
Coach's 5b, M. Myers #11, C. Frazier
#28, M. Herrera #38, R. Williams
#06, R. Johnson #26, J. Aragon #69
to help fill the field of 17 cars.
Friday we started 2nd row outside in
heat two. After following the 69 for
most of a lap we shot low to take
the lead and take the heat win. For
the main, we were lined up 3rd row
inside behind the 11 of Myers. With
the track slicked off on the bottom
and a cushion on the top, I knew I
had to get high as soon as possible.
At the green, the pole sitter (#8),
coming off of turn two drove it in
too hard and spun staying in it and
coming back down the track and
hitting me in the right door. That
spun me around airborne facing
traffic! *&^%$#! WOW that was scary.
Everyone missed me, though. With the
right side pretty damn ugly but
rolling under it's own power I
resumed the race not sure of the
real damage. On the restart, I made
the move on the 11 car moving into
2nd, keeping up with the 75b of Jeep
Berry was a tall order but I was
hanging with em. 10 or so laps into
it the car started getting tight
making it push. Well the 14 of Dean
Moore starting leaning on me as we
raced side by side for another 10
laps. All the lappers were running
the high side also, so you had to go
low to pass. With the car getting
tight, I decided to just stay low
and raced to a 3rd place finish in
the main. After going to the pits,
we realized the right rear was
almost flat from the 1st lap wreck
probably. No wonder it got tight. So
with all that, a 3rd place was good!
The Coach's crew was pretty happy
but new we had repairs to do for
sat.
On hand were Tom & Ruth, Bobbie
Jean, Steve Francis jr, Mike Walker,
Mike Andrews, Alan Bowers & Wife as
the 'A' team!
Aztec Late Model Shootout Recap
(Saturday 08/30/08) - by Butch
Reid
After a full day of maintenance and
repairs from Fridau night's action,
we looked forward to sat night's
racing action. With much
anticipation about the surface with
threatening rains, and the dry
surface at the end of Friday's race,
the Coach's crew was busy preparing
for dry racing. At around 5pm, the
track elected to flood the track?!
Well with much mud packing by the
other divisions we had to help roll
it in, and it was wet! Expecting
heavy heats we stayed with our tacky
setup. As I sat in staging watching
the 1st late model heat, I also
watched the track get blacker and
blacker. Oh well, we got what we
got! Starting 2nd row outside, I
tried to hang on to what
cushion was there. But being way
loose, I raced to a 3rd place finish
in heat two. NOW we know it's gonna
be dry for the main.
Since we race in the mud all year at
HH, we made wholesale changes to the
car without known results to fall
back on. Starting 4th row outside, I
knew at the green we hadn't done
enough. Loose off with minimal
forward bite (oh boy, this is gonna
be a long 40 laps). So to the top I
went to try and hold on. Racing with
the 40 of Davis for most of the
race, I got stuck trying to pass the
14 car for the last 10 laps. Even
after a couple of failed slide jobs,
I finished the caution free, green
to checkered 40 lapper in 6th place.
Jeep Berry #75b clean swept the
weekend taking the win both nights.
Well we know we have some work to do
for dry slick tracks, but we do like
'em, so i'm sure we'll get some more
practice at it! (it just won't be at
HH). A special thanks to Action
Alignment for their support this
weekend! And also to Mark Seifried
of Action Hose, who, after running
second Friday night in his stock
car, elected to put Bobbie Jean of
63bj fame in it for Saturday Night's
races! (what's he thinking?) After
much work to make the seat work
Bobbie went out to pack? Boy was
that a mistake! Too muddy for a
first timer on dirt. Anyway, we got
past that and she ran her heat race
getting her dirt shoes on for the
first time, she stayed on the lead
lap and didn't spin out! YEAH!
Starting scratch in the main (14th I
think), Bobbie got a little racy and
with some attrition raced to a 7th
place finish in her first dirt race!
WHOOPEEEE!
Congrat's to her! So anybody
interested in a asphalt mod?
See ya'll at the Hills Sept.13 for
out last point races of the season
in the mod and late model.
Hollywood
Hills 09/23/08 Recap -- by Butch
Reid
Hooray for the Coach's late model
crew tonight! Win #4 on the season
and some new found horsepower!
After finishing 3rd last time out,
we discovered a bad msd 6al ignition
box was the culprit. So Coach
changed that out with some help from
Alan Bowers and wow, she was hitting
on 8 cyl tonight! I think we've had
an issue all season cause the motor
seemed flat before, But not anymore.
Twelve cars checked in and were to
run two heats. But with rain and
several wheel packing sessions, we
elected to just run a main event,
and it was a good one! I lined up
behind the 96 car and at the green
started moving forward. About lap 3,
I had reached 2nd and could see the
69 car about a half lap ahead. So 'lettin
her eat' I proceeded to chase him
down. Making the pass on the outside
around lap 16 or so, I took the
lead. Oh the lapped traffic, I came
up on the 11 & 28 who were battling
side by side and was challenged by
the 69 on the inside at lap 19 and
we made contact causing, him to spin
into the infield. Sorry about his
bad luck trying stick his nose in on
me at corner entry. Back to green
flag racing, I led the remaining
laps to win the 25 lap feature!!!!!!
YYYYYAAAAHHHHHHHHOOOOOOOOO!
Crew in attendance were: Tom & Ruth
Brooks, Bad Brad, Kenny Todd, Bobbie
Jean, James the 'Chef' Sundsmo and
Mike Andrews.
Food furnished by the Mark Myers
crew. Thanks guys!
Great job by the HH crew tonight
doing everything to get the show
in,premo!
We're off to Aztec next weekend for
the two day late model shootout, so
I guess we're giving the modified
guys a night off to try and catch
us. Good luck!
See ya'll back at the Hills on Sept
13 for the last point race of the
season for the mods and late models.
In Memory of ... -- by Butch Reid
08/22/08
To all those racing fans and family
who support racing within their
family I want to tell a story about
someone close to me and my family.
When I decided I wanted to go racing
about ten years ago, I started out
at Duke City Raceway racing with the
locals and having a good ole time.
In '96, I bought a new mod and made
the decision that to get competitive
I would have to hit the road and
travel to other tracks and race a
lot more than twice a month as per
the local schedule. So we traveled
to Tularosa on Fri nights, or
Carlsbad and Roswell on Saturday
nights (when off here at home).
Then one weekend we ventured off to
Manzanita and Canyon Raceway. We
were hooked on those tracks and
since my Sister Shelly lived there
we could stay with her and her
husband Pat. Pat, as it turned out,
was an avid race fan and loved it
when we came to town. Any time our
crew showed up Pat would fire up the
grill and cook up some steaks or
some other great meal for all in
attendance.
Over the years I have taken many
people to Pat & Shelly's grille to
go racing with me and he always
loved it. Pat never met a stranger,
and he always gave me his twist on
the races each night (whether I
liked it our not).
Pat passed away last week in Phoenix
and we were there for the services
along with dozens of friends and
family members. He will be dearly
missed by all, but especially by
this racer who looked forward to his
smile when the race team showed up
to play!

Hollywood Hills 08/09/08 Recap -- by
Butch Reid
Good night of racing for the Rio
Grande Super Late Model bunch, 15
cars on hand, and a fast smooth
track to play on!
Our night started out with yours
truly drawing a front row pill for
heat one. Getting a good jump at the
startm I led every lap to win heat
#1. Heat two was a good battle
between the 11 car and the 96 car,
with the 11 making a pass for the
win at the checkered to win heat
two.
For the main we lined up outside row
5 behind the 11. At the green I knew
I had a motor problem because it
just wouldn't clear out--seemed like
a fuel issue that kept the motor
flooding to the point of not wanting
to run at all at times. Boy what a
long race! Working traffic with half
the power I'm used to made the race
quite a challenge. As the field
raced side by side I was stuck back
in the field for over half the main
event. With a caution flag, we lined
back up single file so I was able to
make some moves toward the front.
While driving into the corners at
warp speed because I had nothing
down the straits, I managed to pull
up on the 96 who was running 2nd.
Now in third I knew I was better but
had to use all I had to go forward.
Making some contact with the 96 as
he checked up for the 06, he went
through the infield to give me 2nd
place (sorry bout that). I was
hoping to hold that spot til the
end. One more caution, on this
restart (now in second behind the 11
car) I drove er in hard into one and
pulled inside of the 11 off of two
only to have the motor lay down,
@#$%^&* darn it. That was our shot.
Well in the remaining laps I
couldn't hold off the charging 96
car with our sour motor, so we
finished 3rd. I guess it wasn't too
bad bad with the issues I had, but
still disappointing when I knew I
had the car to win with. Congrat's
to Mark Myers for the win. We'll
getcha next time!
On hand tonight for the Coach's crew
were; Tom & Ruth, Bad Brad, Kenny
Todd, Steven Francis Jr., Mike
Walker, Bobbie Jean, and a few
others that stopped by. Thanks to
all for their hard work tonight!
Tonight's racing did tighten up the
points battle, and we do have a
makeup race added to Sept 20th,
which is a points race. So 3 more to
try and redeem our bad night and
pull off another win.
Bobbie and I will be at the paved
track next week so we'll see ya
there!
Thanks to all our great sponsors for
their support!

primo setup on the hotrod all night
long!
After a #15 pill draw we took the
lead at the green of mod heat two
and won the heat green to checkered
going away!
For the main we started 10th, with
the running order moved around to
run the mods last after the sprint
cars we were sure the track would be
dry top to bottom. But looking back
on history, we (crew) decided to
make minimal changes and that was
the ticket.
At the green we got off to a good
start and at the first caution I was
in 6th. Now realizing I had a pretty
good hotrod, I hammered down and
moved up to challenge the 25 for the
lead and made the pass only to have
it negated by a yellow, #$%^&(()))!
Oh well, back to green we retook the
lead right away and was in lapped
traffic right away.
After another caution, we got back
to green and I proceeded to lap up
to 9th place at the checkered flag,
YYYEEEHHAAAWW!!!!!!!
Thank you to all the sponsors you
see on our sponsor section to the
right. We couldn't do it with out
them!
Awesome car count tonight (28). We
ran a B main, great race track, lots
of passing, great crowd, and all
awesome fans!
See y'all next week at the Hills for
the LATE MODEL show, where we'll see
if we can continue the streak!
My grandson Aaron just got out of
surgery Friday--his second open
heart surgery. He is doing well and
hopes to return home by Thursday.
Please keep him in your prayers!

What a great night of racing at the
Hills tonight!
A
big hoorah to the track prep crew
tonight-awesome racing surface!
Our
night started off with Catlin Woosley
pulling the #20 pill which put me 2nd
row inside of the 3rd mod heat. After
light rain and some wheel packing we had
a pretty fast track, but slimy. At the
green I got a good start and chased the
54 car all the way to the white flag and
made the pass off turn 4 to win!
For
the main we started 10th and made good
progress through a couple yellows with a
serious tearoff issue! They all came off
at once @##$%^&! What an ordeal trying
to race with used tearoffs and a muddy
track! Anyway we, battled all the way to
the end and made a last lap pass to win
the feature!!!!!!!!!!! Yaaaaaaayyyyyyy!!!
Special thanks to the Reid Racing
Crew/the Coach's Chassis Crew: Bobbie,
Caitlin, Tom & Ruth, Mike Walker and
Mike Andrews!
Thanks to all them sponsors for all
their help.
A
special note out to Coach's Chassis, who
busted but this week to repair Bobbie's
car, but we found other issues this
morning so the 63bj had to sit out
tonight.

Sandia Motor
Speedway Recap 07/12/08 -- by
Bobbie Reid
Well, the 63BJ car certainly had the set
up tonight and I believe I was the car
to beat! The heat I ran included #66 of
Joe Byers, number 6 of Charlie Daniels,
the #06 of Frank Dutton, the #36 of Dave
Radman, the #59 of rookie, Caitlin Shaw,
and myself- BobbieJean Reid the #63BJ.
This was a fantastic race. My car was
almost perfect with the exception of
being a little tight in the middle. That
didn't slow me down too much as I
finished 3rd. I had a fun and clean race
with #00. Congrats to Caitlin Shaw as
she did very well for her first race in
an asphalt modified, finishing 6th right
on Garry Richard's bumper!
The
main line up was on the board and I
started third row, outside- behind
Willis Johnson and beside Joe Byers.
With Race Safro on the pole and Johnny
Dorcas on the front row, the race began.
We had two complete restarts due to
spins. Thank goodness no real damage was
done! After getting back to our second
double-file restart, I had a plan down.
I followed Willis on the high line for a
few laps before getting pushed up the
track while racing side by side with
Dave Radman. Trying to get my line back,
I raced outside lane for another few
laps. On apex lap 6, the #59 driven by
rookie Caitlin Shaw came to my inside.
Assuming this was a rookie incident-
Caitlin caught my left rear quarter
panel coming out of turn four. This got
me a little "squirly" but I attempted to
save my sideways car, when I felt
another hit. This sent me backwards
towards the wall as I was looking at the
front of #59 Circle Burner. I thought
this wreck was over when I received
another hit on the front of my left side
door by Caitlin Shaw. Other cars that
were involved trying to avoid this
accident were Garry Richrards, and Mick
Jepson(#7). Thank goodness everybody
made it out ok! Mick continued the race
as Garry, Caitlin and myself headed to
the pits with unraceable cars. I've been
a rookie before and am trying to be
understanding about what happened with
#59. It seems that her reaction to the
wreck was out of fear? Possibly she
didn't realize her foot was pushing the
throttle all the way to the ground when
her bumper was already in my door. Once
again, nobody was injured except for
expected bruises.
I'd
like to thank Coach's Chassis, MAD
Design, JGA Racing Engines, and Action
Alignment for being fantastic supporters
for my racing career! Also, thank you to
my fabulous Daddy for supplying my with
a racecar as well as great support. I
had a great crew tonight with Caitie
Woosley! She's a great hand and seems to
love learning! Thanks, sister!
There is, indeed, an asphalt race this
coming weekend. Although there's alot of
crash repair that needs to be done to my
beauty, I plan on being back out for the
fans! If you have any questions, please
contact us on this website by clicking
on the "contact" on the task bar.
As
mentioned above, the #5 Coach's Chassis
Modified will be racing at Hollywood

standings and we're hoping to defend
that title! Come check it out!!!
Sandia Motor Speedway Recap 07/12/08 --
by Butch Reid
After putting the hot setup on both cars
we felt like we had a good shot at a
one-two finish tonight. Bobbie drew the
pills and she was in the first heat, and
I was in the second. After practice we
mounted up a couple new tires and made a
few chassis adjustments to fine tune the
cars.
In
Bobbie's heat she made a good run to
finish 3rd in heat one. For the second
heat I also got off to a good start.
When at lap two I reached to adjust my
brake bias and hit the kill switch while
running 3rd. Getting it right back on, I
lost one spot but took until the white
flag before I retook 3rd place,we'll try
not to do that again!
While the uslma was running their 75
lapper, we made the cars ready for our
main. At the start of the main the 36
spun. Next restart, the 39 spun and the
66 car spun on the NEXT restart. When
will the officials figure out that you
can't keep putting these guys back in
their spot when they cause a
yellow????????????????????
Finally to green flag racing, the pack
was bunched up racing side by side and I
was racing right behind Bobbie and
beside the 59 car being driven by Caitin
Shaw. The 59 tagged Bobbie in the
quarter panel, and then hit her while
she was sideways and stayed on the gas
all down her door??????
Well the result was 4 or 5 cars taken
out of the race by pure stupidity!
Bobbie was out of the race. I tried to
let her finish the race in my car, which
was ok according to an undecided
official who said yes, but then changed
their mind???
Back to green, I passed the 6 car and
worked the 31 car trying to pass for 2nd
all the way to the checkered flag. The
car was too tight on the gas, though. I
could get under the 31 but couldn't pull
the trigger without driving straight
toward the fence@#@^%&(*&)! Darn it!
Fire the setup guy.
Anyway it was all I had to finish 3rd in
the main, 1st was the 06, second was the
31, me, the 6 and the 7 car after that,
which was all I could see at the finish.
Bobbie's car is wounded pretty bad.
We'll see how that goes this week as far
as repairs.
Thanks to
Wyoming service center,action
alignment,coach's chassis,and all those
who support our racing,thank you!
Next week i'm back to HH for the mod
show.

Recap 07/05/08 -- by Butch Reid
Another great night of racing for the
Coach's Chassis Late Model team!
The night started off with slight rain
making for several wheel packing
sessions, but we ended up with a decent
track to race on.
Believe it or not, I drew a good pill
for the heat race, starting on the pole
of heat two and leading every lap to win
the second heat.
For the main we lined up 10th, at the
green flag going into turn one the 99
car spun and tried the 360 and just
about wrecked all of us. On the restart
we got some laps in before the 99
wrecked the 72 and 95 taking the 3 of
them out!?
Now running 3rd behind the 11 of Myers
and 96 of Smithberger, we worked the
outside behind these two running side by
side for about 10 laps, finally clearing
the 96 car I worked the 11 for a couple
laps before the checkered flew for a
shortened 15 lap feature. I felt like we
were cheated out of 10 laps when there
was a great battle for the lead with the
11 car when the track shortened the
scheduled 25 lapper to 15. Anyway,
congratulations go out to Mark Myers and
crew on a good job and the win!
At intermission we went into the stands
and sailed some frisbees into the crowd
and had plenty of them to autograph at
the pits afterward.
Crew on hand tonight was Tom and Ruth
Brooks,Bad Brad Winters,James
Sundsmo,Steven Francis Jr, Bobbie Reid,
and Caitie Woosley.
And a special thanks to Shelby and
Harley for them peanut butter cookies!
Thanks to all them fans and our sponsors
for all your support!
We'll be at Sandia next week so come out
and see us!

They dodged the bullet tonight!
Since our last pavement race (which was
won by me on gasoline and only had 3
operational brakes) we have been busy
with our dirt program. But I have
managed to do some pavement testing.
The
testing and experimenting we've done
seems to have paid off on the 63bj car!
After the first practice session I went
out to hot lap with Bobbie. At the green
she took off and hid from dad. Toward
the end, I slowed down so she could lap
me and I could see how good her car was,
it was premo!! She was excited and ready
to show the boys her new setup, but the
winds came and came and came until the
track cancelled the show, darnit!
I
had some laps as well running the high
line just to make it exciting, with some
side by side laps with Willis(08 car).
Dusting the high line we had some fun,
with him on the bottom of the track,
cool.
I
guess you could say our winning streak
has been interrupted (not stopped).
Next week; Late Models at Hollywood

6/21/08 Recap -- by Butch Reid
Wow! A double clean sweep in the mods
and late models!
A
special congratulations to T. Ball, R.
Shay and crew on a great night for them,
the racers and especially the fans! Good
job!
For
the Reid racing crew and Coach's racing
crew it was a perfect night for us
winning every race we were in.
Crew-Bobbie Reid, Tom & Ruth Brooks, Bad
Brad Winters, Kenny Todd, Mike Andrews,
and Steven Francis Jr. Thanks to all.
The
heat races started with pill draws for
line ups. We were lined up mid pack of
the second late model heat with 14 cars
on hand and seven in each heat. Off to a
good start, I battled with the 96 of
Smithberger for the lead before finally
taking the win over a faster tougher
field than in previous weeks.
In
the mod heat we lined up 3rd in the last
heat (23 cars on hand) and were trying
some more setup stuff which worked out
well since we took the lead off turn two
of lap one and went on to win the heat.
For
the mains we knew being the point leader
in each division our starting position
would be last in the late models and
around 12th in the mods. Sure enough,
starting in the back of the late model
main we got off to a decent start with
cars battling hard for position in the
middle of the pack. Althewhile the 38 of
Herrera was putting distance on the
field, working the faster field of cars
I was able to finally clear the pack and
move into 3rd. Chasing down the 96 of
Smithberger first and not sure who the
leader was, I glanced at the leader
board and saw the 38 was the leader.
Looking for him while in lapped traffic,
I spotted him a half lap ahead,so I knew
I had to air the Rocket/Hatfield out and
let her breathe to catch the 38. So up
on the rim, I was able to pass him on
the outside at lap 15 and go on to win
the caution free main event from the
back! What a rush! Thanks to all our
sponsors, crew, and fans who support us.
In
the mod main sure enough we lined up
12th behind the 54 car. At the start we
dodged a couple of near misses as
several cars were involved in wrecks.
nce we tagged the rear of the 25 car
(sorry) when the 32 spun in front of him
and he checked and I didn't see it
coming and hit him. Glad no damage and
he got his spot back. Back to racing, I
was picking cars off pretty good
following the 25 through the field until
it was for the lead between him and I.
Working him very hard for much of the
race on the bottom, I could get my nose
under him but just couldn't complete the
pass down low. Having won the late model
race on the top, I kept looking at the
middle to top of the track and decided
on the white flag it was gonna be first
or ?. So going into turn one after the
white flag I went to the outside of the
25 and he seemed to slow as I went by.
Not sure what happened there, but we
made the outside pass and came around to
take the checkered for the 4th time of
the nite and complete the DOUBLE SWEEP!
Again thanks to all my crew, sponsors,
and fans who support what we love to
do,Thank you all!
We'll be at Sandia next week trying to
extend our winning streak to 7 weeks in
a row (unless Bobbie beats me!) See ya
at the track!
P.S.!
Just wanted to add
how Butch jr & Zach did last night.
Trying some new dry slick setups, Butch
Jr. finished 2nd in the main last night
in Eunice, and Zach was battling for the
win as well in the mini's finishing 2nd.
Good job guys!

6/14/08 Recap – Four in a Row?
by Butch Reid
Boy I don't know what
were doing but I wanna keep er rolling!
Four wins in four week ends: dirt late
model, dirt mod, dirt late model, and
now the asphalt mod!
With some time since the
75 lap fiasco when we got run over and
had fuel problems, a lot has happened in
the maintenance of the #5 Harris
pavement modified.
With 10 mods in
attendance, we lined up 5th in the 2nd
heat. We played with some setup stuff in
practice and also carb jetting since we
are on gas now instead of methanol. At
the green, I new we were off on the
setup and the jetting--no power and a
tight car. Even though I reeled in the
two front runners--#31 & #7--I couldn't
make the pass, so we settled for third
in the heat.
In the main we rejetted
and freed the car way up, so we hoped
that was the ticket. At the green, I
followed Bobbie in the 63bj car for a
lap and then cut low to start my way to
the front. After a hard fought battle
with J. Dorcas, we finally took the lead
for good around lap 6?With some
challenge from the 06 car for a few laps
we went on to win the main event with a
pretty good hotrod!
During the heat race I
noticed a rattle going on in the back of
the car. Before the main, we pulled
tires and realized the right rear brake
rotor adaptor was not attached anymore.
So....we removed the hub and broken
part, plugged the brake line and went
racing with 3 wheel brakes. Man was it
hard to keep er whoa'd with no right
rear brake.
Thanks to crew Bobbie
Reid, Robert Shay, Mike Andrews, and all
our fans who came out to support us
tonite!!!!!!!
And a special shout out to Alan Bowers
of Wyoming Service Center. The motor he
provided for my asphalt car was
instrumental in allowing me to really
kick butt out at Sandia Motor Speedway.
Thanks Alan!
Thanks to all! See ya
next week at the hills where the Late
Models, Modifieds, and Sprints will be
running. Should be a great show!

6/14/08 Recap -- by Bobbie
Reid
WOW! This one sure was a show for the
fans!! Friday afternoon, me and my daddy
went out to Sandia for a few practice
hours. We went out in each others cars
and raced for some fun as well as
knowledgeable experiences.
With our cars in tune, we came out
Saturday ready for a great time. The
heat races were posted with 63bj and 5
in the same race. Man, do I like racin'
with Daddy! Finishing fourth, right
behind #5, we headed to the pits to get
our cars closer to perfect. Our crew is
much appreciated- Thanks Mike Andrews,
Robert Shay, and of course DADDY! We all
worked together and got the Reid Racing
cars "set on kill". I went out and
started on the outside of the second
row, right behind Race Safro, who was
having starter/flywheel problems and
next to the #31. With a little bit of a
funky start, by the end of the first lap
I was running about ninth. I didn't let
that get me down as I saw Mr. Reid Racer
charging to the front. I got my game
face on and tried to work my way up
there- my goal was to give him a great
father's day celebration race! :) Well,
I didn't make it to him but me and my
competitors sure gave the fans one HECK
of a show. With several laps of side by
side racing, I finished the race in 6th
position. Radman and myself raced pretty
close and hard while trying to be the
first car to find the way around the #66
of Joe Byers. After I got my speed racer
shoes (they give me confidence) on, I
got around the two with clean passes.
Willis Johnson and myself battled
heavily until he blew a head gasket and
left the track with smoke aboard the
#08. When the checkered flag was flying,
I was charging my way up to race with
#31. Great Race fellas! Let's keep up
the close, yet clean racing for the
fans!
Thanks to my sponsors- Action Alignment,
Coach's Chassis, MAD Graphics, and JGA
Racing Engines!
Also, the fan count looked as if it's
growing! Bring your friends and family
out to check it out! If you're
interested in some discount coupons and
schedules, contact us through this

Don't be shy, we love our fans!
Have a great Father's Day, everyone! I

appreciation! Take the opportunity to
show them what they mean to you! :)

6/07/08 Recap – by Butch Reid
Another
great night of racing for the Coach's
Chassis late model team! That's two
clean sweeps this year for the 5b rocket
late model. On hand was Tom & Ruth
Brooks, Bad Brad Winters, Kenny Todd,
Bobbie Reid, James (the chef), and
Steven Francis, Jr. all making setup
changes and scraping mud.
Thirteen
late models checked in with Barry Conant
doing line ups after the pill draw. I
started 2nd row inside of heat one.
Battling with the 78 car for a lap or
two, we finally pulled away to take the
win and the checkered flag in that heat.
The #11 of Mark Myers won heat two.
For the
main we were lined up in side row 4 next
to the 11 car of Myers. With the ever
changing track conditions we were back
and forth on setup changes trying to
make the right call for the main. After
all that deliberation, we decided we got
what we got and lined up.
At the
green, I got a good start and went to
the front in a hurry, running the bottom
of the track. Now in the lead, I thought
I wanted to try the high side and two
cars went back by me. Darn I guess that
was dumb. Anyway back to the bottom I
retook the lead and made some distance
on the 2nd place Smithberger car. At lap
9 after a caution and restart, I was
really struggling with turn 3 & 4. The
11 of Myers took over 2nd and began
closing the gap. Coming to the white
flag and not realizing the 11 was there,
I was trying to put the 06 car a lap
down when he came off turn 4 high and
ended up hitting me in the door and
sending me toward the infield. As I
tried to get the car back on the track,
the 11 passed me on the high side going
into turn one. Not having any of that, I
cut low and regained the lead down the
back stretch to come around and take the
checkered flag! WHEW!!!!!!!! That was
close but exciting for the fans I guess.
Back to the drawing board for a
semi-slick track setup. That 11 was too
close (but we did win, so maybe not).
Thanks to
all our sponsors and fans who came out
to see their car in victory lane!
Next week
Bobbie and I will be at Sandia for their
modified race with a new setup on the
63bj car. Hope I can keep up with her!
See ya at the race track!
Good job
HH crew on a well run show tonight! And
with tonight's clean sweep we are tied
for the point lead in the late model
division and a 4 point lead in the mods,
which neither is gonna be easy to
maintain. Thanks to all!

Title: Was it a full
moon? – by Butch Reid
Well the night started
out on a positive note with Crew Chief
Bobbie pulling a #4 pill for the heat
race lineups. With the Coach's Chassis
modified winning last week the crew was
very positive about this week's setup!
On hand were Tom & Ruth Brooks, Bobbie
Reid, and Mike Andrews scraping mud and
keeping everything ready for the battle.
30 mods signed in for
tonight’s races, making 4 heats: 3 from
each heat to the A, and 18 in the B,
with the track deciding on 10 from the B
to the A, for a 22 car field.
Starting on the pole of
heat 3 I took the lead and held off the
54 car to win by a narrow margin; the
motor was flat off the corners and
needed some tuning before the A main.
After talking with engine man John
Andrews, we rejetted and retimed to try
and give some life back in the 355 chevy.
For the A we started 4th
row inside behind the 25 car. At the
green, we got off to a good start with
the inside row making ground on the
outside row. Coming off turn 4 at lap
one the 25 got side ways and darted
toward the infield. As close as we were
running, he hooked my bumper and took me
with him. Finally freeing up the bumper
lock I continued back on track having
lost multiple positions. A lap later,
the yellow came out, but I was not given
my spot back, !@#$%! Back to green, I
was on a mission back to the front, just
passing to 6th behind the 2m, a yellow
came out again. The 10 & 2m had some
issues on track and in the pits later.
Restarting in 5th, I passed
up to the 82 car when he proceeded to
explode in sparks and smoke right in
front of me. I pulled to the high side
expecting a caution, which never came.
Once again, I lost multiple positions as
the track left him out there creating a
hazard to himself and the other cars
until he stopped on the track. Under
yellow again, I was not given my spot
back. We went back to green flag racing,
and I passed to the top five on the last
lap to finish 4th after some post race
dq's.
Sometimes it seems like
no matter how good your car is, or how
hard you try, everything works against
you!?
Congrat's to the winner
#54 Dutcher, and we may now have the
point lead?
See ya'll next week as
the Rocket Late Model will reappear to
try and redeem our dnf last race!
Thanks to all the fans
for coming out....we love ya!

Title: Two Day Modified
Special at Sandia Motor Speedway Day Two
– By Butch Reid
Well, we had both Reid
asphalt cars out there this time. We had
a lot of help and we sure needed it.
Thanks to Mike Andrews, Andy Lumpkins,
Warren Burger, Robert Shay, and Robbin, the
#63BJ and #5 made it out to the main
event with great confidence.
After making some
practice laps some sitting all winter
maintenance issues surfaced, namely low
fuel pressure. Cleaning everything I
could we seemed to have fixed that
problem and readied for the long race
upcoming. Mounting tires and pumping
fuel for two cars and making team
strategies for the mandatory halfway pit
stop we proceeded to go thru pre-tech
and lined up on the front strait for a
meet and greet with the fans before the
race would start.
BobbieJean started on the
inside right behind the #11 while Butch
tagged the back due not showing the
first day. The green flew for the 75
lapper and we almost made a lap before
the yellow came out. Butch was in the
dirt off the back stretch after getting
tangled with the #23 of Johnny Dorcas.
#5 took it to the hot
pits that were set up on the small track
with a bent tie rod and the boys tried
to get 'er fixed and back out. The race
went green with the crew still working
on Butch's car, where they discovered a
broken swedge tube. Well they restarted
with out me while we/crew hustled up the
broken part to get me back on the track.
Joining the field laps down I proceeded
to go to the front, passing up to 5th
place before the halfway caution for
fuel. We made some adjustments and on
the restart I realized I had the fuel
pressure problems again, so I pulled
into the hot pits and cheered the 63 bj
car on!
BobbieJean passed a few
cars on the restart and was havin a
strong race with Neal DeBord for several
laps. After several cautions, she got
quite a few different battles goin on.
The outcome was GREAT! #63BJ finished 8th
and never got lapped, although the
leader lapped several cars. WHOO HOO!
We had a fantastic
designated pit stop! Thanks for your
help Mr. Burger and Mr. Andrews! It sure
was fun to have so much competition. I'd
like to thank all the cars that came
out, who all made the show the best it
could be.
Thanks to all the others
who certainly made it possible for us to
go out, such as our sponsors: Coach's
Chassis, Action Alignment (special
thanks for borrowed parts), MAD
Graphics, JGA Racing Engines, and
Peerless Tires, Pete from Flexi-Flyer
Motorsports for Butch’s shock package,
and Willis Johnson’s (#08 crew) for
selling Butch their extra fuel.
A note to management at
Sandia,when you start the fastest
qualifier on the pole of every race he;s
in you don't give the fans much of a
race to watch, my hope is that inspite
of being laps down we at least gave the
fans a show on our way to the front!
Thank you all so very
much!

Title: Two Day Modified
Special Day One --
By BobbieJean Reid
With the help of my crew
chief Mike Andrews, the night went
pretty fast. We started out with
qualifying on a few new tires that were
sponsored to me by Action Alignment. I
went out for my two laps and the car was
loose, but I did keep it under me.
The 63BJ team qualified
third row outside of the second heat
race. This went well, a little battle
for racing. We went out for the main
starting next to rookie Race Safro, the
#39. We kept a clean and strong race
throughout until fuel pressure problems
caused the #63BJ care to pull off with
five to go.

Model With a not so good pill draw in
the Late Model heat race I had to let
the field go by at the green as the 38f
didn't go in front of me. Taking the
high line, we took the lead and went on
to win the Late Model heat going away.
With a better pill in the
mod heat we battled the 74t & 3j for
most of the race but pulled off the heat
win in the modified 3rd heat.
The Late Model main lined
up with a total invert based on point
average. Having made a clean sweep first
night, out we started in the back of the
point average cars. At the green I
started picking cars off one at a time,
working my way toward the front. When
making a move on the 3rd place cars
battling side by side, I lost all power
and rolled to a stop on the back
stretch. After being pushed to the pits,
we discovered we lost the fuel pump
drive belt, darnit! So goes the point
lead or the chance of a clean sweep?!
In the modified main we
were listed 5th in points, so we started
the main in 8th. Dodging one
wreck in turn 2 on the first start, and
being the meat in the sandwich on the
next restart between the 54 & 3j cars,
I
decided to go high on the next start and
proceeded to go to the front. After a
good battle with the 25 car for a few
laps, and multiple restarts for spinning
cars, we went on to lap much of the
field and win our first modified main of
the year! Yeeaahh!!!!!
Much thanks go out to
Coach's Chassis and our entire crew: Tom
& Ruth Brooks, Brad Winters, Steven
Francis, Kenny Todd, and others who
stopped by!
To all our fans and
sponsors, Thank You!!!!!!!
Next week repeat? Hope
so!
P.S. Butch Jr. ran 5th at Cardinal Motor
Speedway. Zachary ran 2nd at Roadrunner
Speedway Friday in Carlsbad and was
challenging for the lead at Cardinal
when he cut down a tire near the end of
the race.

Title: "The 5b Coach's
Chassis Super Late Model makes a clean
sweep!" – by
Butch Reid
With a full crew on hand
including Tom & Ruth Brooks, Brad
Winters, Steve Francis Jr., and Kenny
Todd. Everything clicked for the Rocket
chassis crew tonight.
A special thanks go out
to Barry Conant our LM president for
making the calls to get the great car
count for the opener at HH for the Late
Model show!
16 cars checked in for
the nightm which meant two heats, With
pill draws we started 3rd row outside of
heat two. Taking the lead down the back
strait of lap one, I led every lap to
win the 2nd heat race.
The 40 car of Davis won
heat one and seemed like we would battle
for the win in the main with him.
The main lined the 28 &
40 car on the front row and us 4th row
outside of the 16 car field. Taking the
green, I passed several cars on lap one
and several more on lap two and was
overtaking the 28 car on lap 3 when a
caution flew. Back to third on the
restart, I battled the high line for
several laps before going to the bottom
to challenge the two leaders. We were
three wide at one point it was an
exciting race
with lots
of side by side action and lots of
passing.
After one
of the many cautions for spinning cars,
on the restart, the 40 car exited the
track with mechanical problems, leaving
the battle early. After many attempts at
passing the 28 car on the low side and
some close competition I moved to the
outside to complete the pass, after many
more cautions we were able to hold on
for the main event win!
Thanks to
all our fans and sponsors who support
our racing. I'm happy we were able to
complete the sweep and win for them!

Title: "Ride of My Life"
– by BobbieJean
Reid
Twelve Modifieds showed
up tonight to make a pretty decent show.
As the wind died down, we all prepped
for the two heat races. Mike Andrews and
myself put the final touches on and
headed out to start on the outside pole
of the first heat right next to Johnny
Dorcas. With a scary start, Johnny took
the lead. Charlie Daniels got by him
after a few laps while the rest of us
were trying to find away around the
number 23. He was holding us off pretty
good as we all held the bottom line.
With one lap to go, Johnny and Garry
Richards II got tangled pretty good on
the front straight away- pulling out a
yellow. After a few laps of caution, the
red light came out in order to make it
easier to clean up the wreck. On the
straight away once again, an incident
occurred. Mick Jepson's throttle stuck
and there was a three car pile-up right
under the flag stand. Kevin (Sandia's
flagman) decided to checker flag the
race.
Heat two had no cautions:
Great job guys!
Heat one finish:
Charlie Daniels(#6),
Darrell Meek (#71), Mick Jepson (#7),
BobbieJean Reid (#63BJ), Garry Richards
II (#00)(DNF), Johhny Dorcas (#23)(DNF)
We lined up for the main
with all twelve cars!! Great job on
repairs, fellas! The line-up was the
same as the heats so Johnny was on the
pole with me on his outside once again.
Another outrageous start got the field a
little out of control. Johnny took the
lead again. After a few laps, the field
spread out with Frank Dutton taking the
lead. There wasn't too much position
trading. But Garry Richards and myself
put on a great show for the fans! I had
the drive of my life. With the #00 car
tight on exit and my car(#63BJ) loose on
exit, we were racing side by side for
nearly fifteen laps! The constant battle
between the two of us was the thing to
view, as I've heard from a few
spectators. Garry'd get me on entry on
the inside, causing me to run the high
side. I'd get him on exit and pull him
down the straight away. What a BLAST!
With eight laps to go, a caution was
thrown for a wreck in turn two. This
didn't take long to clean up and both
cars regained their spots. We took the
green, but not for long. Another yellow
flag was thrown with four to go. Once
again, Kevin checker flagged the race
under caution. Thanks to my dad's great
advice and experience, as well as Mike's
great spotting and pit skills, we had a
fantastic night!
Main Event Finish-
1) Frank Dutton (#06)
2) Bruce Martin (#31)
3) Mick Jepson (#7)
4) Charlie Daniels (#6)
5) Darrell Meek (#71)
6) BobbieJean Reid (#63B)
7) Willis Johnson (#08)
8) Johnny Dorcas (#23)
9) Garry Richards II
(#00)
10) Dave Radman (#36)
11)Robbie Haaland(#37)
12)Race Safro(#39)
I'd like to thank Coach's
Chassis, my main sponsor for their
support along with Action Alighnment!
Also, JGA Racing Engines sure proved to
be the best tonight!
Hollywood Hills Speedway 5-03-08 The
first night show is in the books! --
by Butch Reid
A good turnout of 28 mods,
which ran 4 heats, a B main, and 22
starting the A main.
The Reid Racing crew had
a full complement of help on tap
tonight, with Crew chief Bobbie, Tom &
Ruth Brooks, Bad Brad Winters, and Mike
Andrews.
We started the day off
with what was a very free setup and
after Bobbie drew pill 21. We knew we
had a good starting spot for the heat!
The track was very fast and smooth so
starting outside row one of heat two we
took the green and led every lap to win
the heat race! Thank goodness we don't
have to run the B main!
After much deliberation
for the A setup, and the running order
putting the mods last after the sprints,
we figured on a slick track so we
tightened the car up?! OOpps! The
sprints actually brought moisture back
up on this cool night. After a 1st lap
crash in turn one, I felt lucky that I
dodged that bullet and made it through
cleanly. But with cars sitting in turn
two the track didn't throw the yellow
even after the receiver radio told us
the track was yellow. Well several cars
didn't listen and made up several spots
leaving us and others wondering what the
heck just happened when they did finally
go yellow a lap later. Having started
10th in the A at lap one, I was now in
16th?
If the fact that I was
fighting a tight race car wasn't enough,
now I lost multiple positions on the
first lap because of some snafu by the
scorers/judges or … ?
Anyway, back to green
flag racing and working an ill-handling
car, we raced to the checkered in 10th.
Either I found a line I could make up
ground with or the track was slicking
off, but I passed several cars toward
the end!
I do think we're gaining
on the setup by realizing two things;
the tracks will probably stay fast, and
our car needs to stay very free, even on
a dry appearing track!
Thanks again to all who
support Reid Racing.
Next week Bobbie will be
at Sandia on the asphalt while I will be
at HH in the Coach's Chassis Late Model!
See ya at the race track!
Hollywood Hills
Speedway Results 04/27/08 -- By Butch
Reid
Hollywood Hills 4-27-08 Final day show
in the books! Thank goodness! With as many
dry slick laps as I have had during my
racing career, I believe that for the
management of the track to be right, it
has to have moisture in it to hold up,
which will provide good racing. So I
gave up on the dry slick bandwagon. Keep er heavy!
With that off my chest, the day of
racing was pretty good with some very
fast heats and a B main.
We started 5th in the 3rd heat and
quickly jumped to third place behind the
two Barnett mods giving some close
competition at the end finishing 3rd.
16 cars locked into the A main and all
others had to run a B main. We redrew
for the A main and started 8th.
Getting a good start, we raced up in the
top 5 for the first half of the main by
running the bottom groove, but seemed to
be running all over the cars in front of
me. After the 44 car passed me on the
outside I made the move to give up the
bottom and try the top. I guess I didn't
get high enough as the 44 went on to win
the race on the top while I lost ground
and finished 8th. That
decision cost me some spots, but I knew
I wasn't gonna win playing follow the
leader around the bottom. I came to win!
Thanks to mycrew: Bobbie Jean, Bad Brad,
Tom & Ruth Brooks and Mike Andrews, for
their hard work setup was good – a lot
better than last week. But we still are
working out some handling issues to get
this car in the winners circle!

Sandia Motor
Speedway Results 04/26/08
Opening night at Sandia Motor Speedway
was exciting and eventful with Bobbie up
on the wheel all night!
After mounting up some new tires (two
sponsored by Coach's Chassis), Bobbie
took to the track to practice and scuff
the new tires.
The 1st heat action was fast and furious
with most drivers out for the first
time. That, along with high winds and
cold air, the track was less than
perfect. With one minor spin in a loose
car, Bobbie battled to the finish in 5th
for the heat … back to the drawing board
for a main setup.
Starting on the pole, Bobbie had a great
first start taking the lead and pulling
away from the field at the end of lap
one, but a spin brought out a yellow and
a restart.
Another good start by Bobbie but the 7
car was strong and fought by for the
lead early. Finding a groove she liked
the 63bj car was holding on to a strong
5th place when the 08 car got over
aggressive and spun Bobbie out?!
Everyone saw what happened except the
judges, so the 63bj car got sent to the
rear on the restart with the 08
retaining his spot?! Several laps later,
the 08 spun the 06 and the judges
finally sent the 08 to the rear.
Bobbie raced to an 8th place finish in
the main with all the adversity and did
a good job in spite of miserable weather
and blind judges!
13 mods showed up to race at Sandia
Motor Speedway with more coming out for
the next show.
Congratulations to Mick Jepson on his
mod win tonight!
The 63bj team worked hard tonight with
high expectations and will continue to
work hard in search of those tough Main
event wins!
Also, Zachary Reid won the mini stock
main event at Cardinal Motor Speedway,
which is 3 mains in a row. Butch Reid
Jr. started 12th and finished 7th. Great
job, guys!
Next Sandia mod race: 5-10 with results
to follow

for their support!

Well the much anticipated opening DAY
show is in the books! – by Butch Reid
As much as I looked forward to today's
dry slick race I'm somewhat frustrated
with the track crew's attempt to keep it
wet. Anyway with that said, the racing
was good with lots of side by side
battling going on around me.
Bobbie, myself and crew man 'Bad Brad"
took to tackling a setup that we were
happy with today. Hot laps we were too
tight as we were pulling big wheelies,
so we tuned and adjusted ... In the heat
race we were better, starting 3rd
and finishing 4th after spinning myself
to avoid the out of control 24 car, who
lost it in front of me. On the restart
we were sent to the rear and worked our
way back to 4th at the finish.
More tuning and adjusting for the main
... which was very dry top to bottom
until we lined up in staging ... the
track crew flooded the bottom and wet
the top, leaving the middle dry, which
was not what we set up for!
On the redraw for the main we started 7th.
After a restart we got going. I seemed
to be able to find a line where I could
maintain my position without sliding
back. After several near misses for
spins and losing as much as 4 positions
once while dodging spins, we loaded the
car with only minor quarter panel
damage, and earned a 6th place finish,
whew!!!!!!
The crew busted butt today trying to
keep up with the setup and changing
track conditions and all in all not a
bad first race day. I guess a 6th place
finish just won't do for me or our team,
so we'll work on it and be back next
week for more wonderful DAY racing at
the Hills!
Thanks to all our sponsors and fans who
support us no matter the results! See
ya'll next week. Congratulations to
today's mod winner #2m Richard Johnson
and a big pat on the back to the HH crew
for working very hard to make the best
of a less than desirable weather
conditions!

News flash! A Reid wins every
race they entered! by Butch
Reid
In the 1st mod heat I drew pill
81, go figure. Starting last I
took the lead on lap two from
#06 Owen Puckett and never
looked back winning, the first
ever race we entered with our
black IMCA car. Owen ran second,
#11 was 3rd, Butch jr was 4th,
R.Mars 5th, and Frinz 6th.
In the mini stock, Zachary (my
grandson), drew the pole and led
every lap to win his first ever
heat race (his dad gave him the
cold water shower)!
Butch Jr.and I both drew pills
for the main, I drew for the
dash since all top finishers (3
heats/6 cars) were in the dash.
I had some sparks flying off my
front rotors in the heat so we
elected to fix that problem and
miss the dash.
In the mini stock main Zachary
once again drew the pole, the
#12 gave him some competition
for a few laps til Zach figured
out the dry slick and went on to
win his first ever main event!
Congratulations Zachary!!!!!
In the mod main Butch jr and I
started side by side on the
front row of a fast field of 18
modifieds. As excited as I was
to win the heat with this new
car, Bobbie (my crew chief) and
I were somewhat conservative
with our main event dry slick
setup, not knowing what to
expect from this new car. At the
green we were in the lead going
into turn one. When I hit the
brakes the car pushed me up the
track almost hitting Butch jr.
(too much front brake bias).
After realizing I was adjusted
the wrong way, I got it figured
out but slid back in the field
before then. Butch jr ran the
high side battling with Toby
Herring for the lead several
laps before he checked out and
went on to win the mod main!
Congratulations to Butch jr. on
winning the modified main
event!!!!! Herring was 2nd,
N.Flowers 3rd, and B.Sikes 4th.
